Massachusetts Is A Conservative State

By L.J. Chapman
Sept. 20, 2004

I'm not a political person. I vote, I keep up with what's going on with the presidential debates and such, but I am not a political person in general. I am, however, quite opinionated about what is going on in this conservative state I live in called Massachusetts.

I've made no secret of the fact that two people I love dearly are currently in the "lovely" correctional facilities that Massachusetts is kind enough to supply. My fiance is in Worcester County House of Corrections and Jail, which by all terms and technicalities is the worst run place I have ever seen in my life, and I've seen quite a few jails in my lifetime. My father is incarcerated at Massachusetts Treatment Center in the Bridgewater Psychiatric Facility. They're cool, don't mind that place. It's the cross over place he was in MCI Concord that I have a problem with.

Criminals are criminals. When they go to jail, they are in jail because they have committed a crime and they are serving a time period lacking certain freedoms that they have grown accustomed to, like going outside. They are there with a specific punishment and there should be no punishment thereafter. I would like to address that to the guards at MCI Concord. Do your job! It is not for you to turn the other cheek and let a seperate "Oz" type punishment happen. You are there to protect the prisoners. If one of the prisoners is in danger or is harmed, it is your responsibility to remove the above said prisioner from harm. Occassionally, this is not done, and because of these guards, people are left shattered and broken by their lack of ethics in doing their job.

But what am I to do about the incompetence of a few guards at one of the biggest prision systems in all of Massachusetts? I am going to make life a living hell for them, as they have made life a living hell for my family. Can I do that? Does anyone care? Is the pen truly mightier than the sword? We'll find out I guess. But to not do one's job. To not do one's job to the point where another person is harmed is wrong. No matter what type of person you are, criminal, civilian, military, you are a HUMAN BEING!! There is not one person on this planet who should pass any judgement on you unless you're a judge and you are sentencing someone.

I am rambling on, I know. But I am a peaceful person, and I do not fight and I very rarely stand up for myself. But my family, we're like a pride of lions. (Thank you, Sunday). And someone in the pride has been hurt. Mufasa has been harmed. And now I have to defend what has been hurt. It took years. I took 15 years of being walked on and kicked at to get me here. I never thought it would happen, but I am finally mad. I am ready to stand up. Don't you worry, Mufasa, I've got you covered.
