Sept. 19, 2004 Watching and listening to Dan Rather, I’m reminded of what one of Dan’s former victims said. During the Watergate era scandal (in which President Nixon was faulted more for the cover-up than the actual crime), Rather pursued and pummeled Nixon with gleeful abandon. Nixon’s statement to public was: “I am not a crook.” Unfortunately that wasn’t entirely true. Now, many years later, Rather finds himself in an all too similar situation. Knowing full well that the documents he has presented are forgeries, Mr. Rather is now part-and-parcel to the crime. He and CBS refuse to admit their chicanery and are bound and determined to jump into the abyss together. Note: Dan, although you could have extricated yourself from this quagmire early on you refused (and still refuse) to do so. Despite the fact that the Rathergate/document- gate scandal has been exposed by the new and alternative media, CBS’ old liberal media still firmly implants their feet in wet sand and refuses to budge from their sophistry. Even after the forgeries were traced back to Burkett (strong Dem and Bush-hater) and the Kerry campaign, Dan still refuses to admit he was wrong to go with the story. However, this is not the first time something like this has happened. CBS and Rather have been embroiled in “sexing it up” scandals and liberal-lunacies, before. Another example of “anything to get those dastardly Republicans”? In 1982 on “CBS Reports”, Rather soundly besmirched Gen. Westmoreland (CBS eventually had to pay an “undisclosed settlement amount” to Gen. Westmoreland for Rather’s slander). Rather had interviewed eight former Viet Nam Vets who told of abhorrent atrocities they had committed during the Viet Nam war (which was proven to be lies as most of the eight hadn’t been in Viet Nam and the others hadn’t seen combat), in order to support his claims against the general. After discovering the sources had been discredited, Rather and CBS pursued the story anyway; coaching and paying their “witnesses”. Sound familiar? Rather’s ‘sleaze factor’ has, already, been firmly established. The fact that Rather and CBS hate Republicans (and will do anything…including lying…to destroy them) was established years ago. Rather and CBS are part of the larger mainstream liberal media’s extreme and never-ending prejudice against Republicans and Conservatives and for Democrats and liberals. This bias continues in full-force and unchecked, today. CBS was just the one caught (as it happens… again), this time. At least the BBC, with its strong liberal bias, had the fortitude to fire those involved in the faked Tony Blair story. Will CBS, ultimately, do the same? If so, will it fire only some low-level individual or will it let the ‘big’ perpetrator go? For years, Dan Rather’s sign-off was “Courage”.
