Sept. 18, 2004 Life as a female is full of so many pains and joy. Growing up in a society where a female child is seen as a mere property of a man is so frustrating. You are made to realize that the only knowledge you gain is just to help you to take care of your future husband. My mother once told me that during her own growing up years, the female children are initiated into womanhood by performing the annual festival where they will be mutilated.- female genital mutilation. Thanks my star it has stopped in my own generation because heaven itself knows I can't endure such. Part of the joy of been a lady is the fact that those men giggles and winks at you. They make you feel on top of the world by their various approaches. I can still remember vividly how james cornered me on my way to the village stream. He told me he will marry me. I was so happy that day. Let me conclude by saying, the best creature created on earth by God is "female". The only prayer that I can still continue to say to God is that he should open the eyes of our world-my society, to the fact that women should be given equal right as men. ------------ About the author Olamide Ayeni: A 21 year old female.
