Sept. 15, 2004 Some CBS executive is a genius. They've figured out how to put anything on the air and get away with it. No, I'm not talking about some prime time show, or some day time talk show. I'm not talking about a soap. I'm talking about the NEWS. Look, Dan Rather isn't a rocket scientist. High paid as he is he's just a network grunt. If he does something without the blessings of the brass he's gonna see his head roll (don't try to figure this out at home, kids). If it were something that would get CBS in deep legal crap you know not even Rather is expendable. Therefore, as I said, some CBS executive is brilliant. If you want to make news about someone, if you want to attack someone, and do NOT have facts to back you up; make them up. Stand by them. Make Rather stand by them. He's believable, right? Riiggghhhtttt!!! (Okay, stop that laughing right now, I mean it, aw, come on guys! I'm serious now. Sigh) As I said, make up your facts. Who would question Dandy Dan Rather (rather biased)? Yeah, okay, we established that. He reports something about Bush, obvious forgeries, and he DEMANDS the President respond and explain himself. What about Mr. Rather? How does he explain having an affair with my wife last year? Okay, my wife has been dead since 1997 so I don't really think there could be anything to that, but well, come on Dan...tell us the real story. See, you can make up anything. If you don't believe me look at all the tabloids at the check out counter. Which leads me to another point. You see a crappy picture of a celebrity on the cover and are lead to believe they are at death's door. You might see this for years. I recall this with George Burns and Bob Hope. Now their doing it to people like Liz Taylor. See make up a fact. Tell something long enough and that makes it true. Report the last days of a star and sooner, or later they die. Yeah, it might take years, but so what? So come on. Let's forget truth and integrity in news reporting. Let's make something up, right Dan? Then we can make the facts fit it later. Oh, and Dan...if you hear from my(deceased)wife, let me know. Nuff said. Semper Fi! ------------ About the author: Lee Zelhart is a proud graduate of McKendree College in Lebanon, Illinois.
