Sept. 14, 2004 It remains truly amazing how so many intelligent people can evaluate something which looks like a duck, walks like a duck and quacks like a duck and still somehow see something that is anything but a duck. The partisan Democrat media bias is so prevalent, one has to wear blindfolds to not see it. And yet so many appear to not see it. Will the latest dagger to the heart of even the pretense of objectivity be enough so that most of us finally recognize the duck as a duck? I wouldn't bet on it. Like a crazed sports fan who always believes the national television announcers are biased against his or her team, most liberals see the drivel produced by ABC, CBS, NBC, CNN and virtually all of the major newspapers as fair while citing one cable outlet, FOX News, as evidence that the media really is tilted to the right. (This despite the fact that FOX News has a more balanced contingent of reporters and commentators than any other news network--cable or broadcast.) If there was any doubt that Dan Rather and CBS News are in bed with the Democrats and trying their level best to get John Kerry elected this fall, it was dispelled with the alleged forged memos that supposedly discredited President Bush and his National Guard record. Dan Rather and CBS ran with these memos as being the primary source in proving that Bush had not properly fulfilled his military responsibilities as claimed. Forgetting the fact that this issue one which is decades old, and John Kerry and the Democrats regularly tell Bush he needs to stick to the present day issues, CBS saw a chance to stick it to Bush and they were not to be denied. As is usually the case with the leftwing press, "evidence" which puts a Republican in a bad light is virtually always given more credibility than is due, while similar evidence incriminating a Democrat is very often discarded. When a Republican jaywalks, it's a Capital offense, when a Democrat lies under oath to a federal court, it's a minor transgression. So CBS thought it had its smoking gun and had no incentive to discredit documentation which would help in achieving its objective (the election of Kerry). What is even more amazing, in their infinite arrogance, CBS and Dan Rather even now refuse to investigate the authenticity of the memos in question. They will not even pretend to investigate. They steadfastly stand by this wobbly story while piously thumbing their noses at the slightest semblence of objectivity. The message is clear: This story is true because we say it's true. Perhaps CBS is playing to its liberal audience here because it certainly is not playing to reality. In a truly objective world, of course, President Bush's National Guard record would no longer be an issue. Bush's record has been questioned at least on four separate occasions and responded to accordingly. The story goes away for a while only to be conjured up once again in yet another attempt to discredit the president. And it is quite interesting this dead story was resurrected yet again just after the poll bounce Bush received following his party's convention. Bush's service record has no relationship whatsoever as to how to deal with any current-day issue; yet the media lets this story live as if it is crucial to the future of America. And now they do so using under false and fabricated information without the hint of professional skepticism being applied. The skeletons in Republicans closets always need to be investigated to the fullest extent possible. If only Dan Rather and the media applied this same rule to the "evidence" which incriminates those Republicans. ------------ About the author: Ed Abraham is a concerned citizen living in flyover country, U.S.A., who happens to be truly disgusted by the loss of common sense in our society and is doing all he can to try to reinstall it.
