Sept. 10, 2004 The Brits are having their Science Fair going on and evidently it's a biggy. They've got a lot of science stuff going on and if you haven't heard the news they took a poll of the top ten screen scientists. Number three was Doctor Who, which isn't surprising for the BBC who partnered on this poll. It's a long running BBC sci fi show. Number two came in for Mr. Spock of Star Trek. What got me was the first spot, Dr. Benson Honeydew and Beaker from the Muppet show! Geeettt OUT! I can't believe it. Honeydew? I looked at the contestants. I looked at the winners of the top ten list. I couldn't believe the Professor didn't make it. Remember him? Gilligan's Island?Could make anything with a coconut and a clam shell. What was Honeydew and Beaker known for?Yeah, blowing Beaker up, or someone, or something else. Come on! Give me a break. And they beat out Spock by double, 33 percent of the votes. Spock got 15 percent. Okay, Spock was brilliant, but we knew he was a science officer. We never saw him do anything, we just knew he was brilliant. The Professor though. He didn't even make the list. What's up with that? Even Dr. Frankenstein made the list, and Frank N. Furter, but not the Professor? Hmmm. Now, I'm not slighting a guy who could sew a bunch of body parts together and make a monster. I'm not shorting Dr. Emmett Brown (Back to the Future) who could make a time machine out of a swell car. Dr. Evil...well, okay. And James Bond's bud Q, yeah. However, the Professor, the man who could find a million ways to harness the power of a coconut? It's just too bad the only other problem was...they couldn't find another woman scientist to add to the list. Dana Scully can't be the only brilliant babe to fit the bill. I have often had a theory she was the love child of Ginger and the Professor so I guess I should take some comfort in that. ------------ About the author: Lee Zelhart is a proud graduate of McKendree College in Lebanon, Illinois.
