Sept. 8, 2004 President George W. Bush is coming to my hometown; in fact he is coming to my college university, but every time anyone speaks about President Bush being here I always hear someone say that there is going to be an anti-Bush protesting outside the venue. Why? Why protest? It’s not going to stop people from voting for him; it’s not going to stop people from supporting him. You think Ron Silver would stop supporting President Bush just because college kids protest? No-he wouldn’t. Now, I personally don’t support either party; I don’t support Kerry nor do I support Bush, but I will vote for one of them and I will vote for the one that I think will make this country better. I do understand that in this country we have the right to voice our opinions, just like on Useless-Knowledge; however, protesting, I believe, is a waste of time. I personally am going to worry about my academic grades instead of holding up a sign and yelling obscenities about Bush. I would love to know why there is protesting against Bush, it seems that protesting against Bush is the cool thing to do nowadays. Kinda like hating Vanilla Ice, you don’t hate him for personal reasons, you hate him because everyone else is doing it. If committing suicide was the cool thing to do, would you do it? I respect everyone’s opinion and the candidate they are going to vote for in November; however, I can’t fathom why anyone, especially college kids, would turn to protesting? Of course I asked why they would protest and they were offended by my comment; I was just curious, like I said I don’t support Bush nor Kerry; however, a good reason to rally up some hippy college kids to boo at Bush was not presented. Case in point, someone said, “because he put us in war!” We? What do you mean, we? I’m still in America, you’re still in America, he didn’t put me in war, he didn’t put you in war. What war are you talking about? The war in Iraq? Okay, I can see your point, but what about the war in Afghanistan? I don’t think George W. Bush put US in war, I think the terrorists put us in war. Instead of protesting about how Bush sucks, why not just wait until November and vote against him. ------------ About the author Eric Schomburg: Visit http://www.geocities.com/schomburg2002.
