Sept. 7, 2004 With his poll numbers receding, John Kerry has decided to change his mind on the Iraq war again. Surprised? No? I didn’t think so. Intelligent people always see another of the Kerry flips coming. This time, Kerry’s chats with Clinton convinced him to change his mind and his strategy. After talking with former President Clinton (some reports have Kerry begging Clinton for help at his hospital bedside just before the Dem’s #1 godfather went into surgery), yesterday, Monsieur Kerry (told in no uncertain terms to “drop the Viet Nam war thing”) said that President Bush had sent US troops to the "wrong war in the wrong place at the wrong time". Kerry vowed to 'try' to get them home in the next 4 years. Hmmm. Two weeks ago, didn’t Kerry say he’d bring them home within 6 months of his being elected…if he were elected? Campaigning in Pennsylvania, Kooky Kerry then added: "We want those troops home, and my goal would be to try to get them home in my first term." With his continued use of the word ‘try’, Kerry leaves himself open for his (anticipated?) failure to do so. But, he can always say ‘I tried’. What a remarkably “sensitive” presidential candidate. He tried. His comments helped him with the anti-war hordes and left him some wiggle room for the pro-war Dems (he’ll ‘try’ to get them out…but not too soon). And to think that just a few short weeks ago Kerry said he would have voted for the Iraq war, even if there were no WMDs. What a cheeky guy! I continue to be amazed and have no choice but, to applaud him…’clap clap’. Kerry is truly and inexorably the ‘Master of being on every side of every issue’ at every conceivable time; much like Dana Carvey in the Master of Disguise. He has this trickery thing down cold! No matter to Mr. Kerry. If this former self-proclaimed war hero gets into the White House, he’ll change his mind again; on a weekly or daily basis if he follows his own historic path. Terrorists love this kind of thing in one of their enemy-leaders. They know how to deal with confusion and weakness. Just look at Spain. Kerry continued his sparkling banter, to his filled-with-Kool-Aid faithful, with his never-to- be-humble statement that the Iraq war coalition of nations was "the phoniest thing I ever heard". Although a less than scintillating comment, it will probably be quoted in the halls of the liberal intelligensia (oxymoron?) for millennia to come. After this statement, one small question comes to mind. If Kerry (as First King of the United States) plans to bring the US into the fold of the European Union (with France or the UN deciding our fate?), will his calling some of its member-nations ‘phony’ make them better unite around his dubitable charms? Guess this is one of those “new strategies” he plans to employ. The more times he calls them stupid, the more they’ll rally around him. Yeah, that’s the ticket! It doesn’t make any sense to me but, I’m not a weathered politico like John Forbes Kerry. As members of his dumbfounded base might say “He just knows stuff!” Even while the Navy’s Investigator General breathes down his neck, the new and improved John Kerry says he is armed with a new attack arsenal, a new “strategery” and that he has reentered the ‘Beat-up-Bush arena’. One of the new strategies is calling President George W. Bush George “Wrong” Bush. What a remarkable wit he has! Not... As long as John Kerry’s decided to be cutesy with words, I’d personally like to suggest George “WIN” Bush. That works much better for me. Now that Kerry’s numbers are down, his surrogates are calling him “the come-back kid”. They say he has always come back to win, during campaigns where he’s behind. This time, for all of our sakes and the fate of the country, let’s don’t let him. This time, let’s move on and leave John Kerry behind. Besides, Kerry's busy making up 'funny', new and improved 'strategic' words about President Bush. He won’t notice anyway. ------------ About the author: About the author: Sher Zieve is a Conservative political commentator, appeared on the CBS program "Mysteries of the Millennium", has been included in "Who's Who in the West", "Who's Who in the US" and "Who's Who in Entertainment".
