Has John Kerry Become Captain Queeg?

By Sher Zieve
Sept. 4, 2004

Like a latter day Captain Queeg, John Kerry’s grasp on reality is becoming ever more tenuous. After attempting to sue the Swift Boat Veterans for Truth (the group and its individual members), their publisher Regnery, the TV stations that carried their ads and the bookstores that dared to sell the book “Unfit for Command’, Kerry’s attorneys and the Florida Democrat Party sued the State of Florida (last Tuesday) to keep Ralph Nader off the ballot. The Dem Party and Kerry’s band of barristers have been following Nader from state to state, suing and/or threatening him as he goes. Kerry’s actions have not only become desperate but, as often happens with frantic people, are becoming increasingly eccentric. His, as many who have become disturbed, erratic behaviors are beginning to escalate.

Thus far, Mr. Kerry continues to campaign under only one issue-his service in Viet Nam. That, of course, is his choice. But, then he becomes incensed when anyone questions it and his anti- American behavior after he returned home. He set the parameters and is then furious that he is allowed to do so. Huh? Although members of the Bush administration continue to say that they “honor” his Viet Nam service, Kerry says that they have questioned his patriotism. Any rational person has to wonder what he’s talking about. But, still he persists while attempting to convince his base that calling someone “honorable” really means the opposite. What’s wrong with this picture? Everything, if it’s referring to stability and lucid thought processes. During the RNC Convention, Kerry sent his minions to try to storm the proceedings and infiltrate it. Unfortunately, a few were successful in that infiltration and some minor disruptions occurred. Kerry and the other Democrat leaders spout and foment hatred for President Bush, while saying that “Bush is the real purveyor of hateful campaigning”. This is a classic Democrat strategy. When the President campaigns on the real and salient issues (NOT the 35-years-ago Viet Nam war), the Dems call them ‘negative campaigning tools against Johnny Kerry’.

This “Kerry as victim” tactic has gone way too far and has been grossly overused. Time to stop and learn to play in the sandbox with others, children. Or, as President Harry S Truman wisely said: “If you can’t stand the heat, get out of the kitchen.”

Captain Queeg’s character in the Caine Mutiny has definitely come to life in John Forbes Kerry. If it weren’t so startling to see it in a presidential candidate, it might even be humorous. However, instead of humorous, it’s very alarming. When I watch John Kerry giving campaign speeches in the future, I’m going to be watching his hands for marbles. How about you?
