John Kerry’s Desperate “Midnight at the Oasis”

By Sher Zieve
Sept. 3, 2004

In a desperate attempt to discount last night’s cornerstone speech given by President George W. Bush, John Kerry spouted an unprecedented midnight counter-speech to a small group in Springfield, Ohio. Kerry peevishly said: “For the past week, they attacked my patriotism and my fitness to serve as Commander-in-chief” and "I'm not going to have my commitment to defend this country questioned by those who refused to serve when they could have and by those who misled America into Iraq."

First of all, although Kerry and his surrogates continue to spout these lines, no one in the Bush administration has questioned Monsieur Kerry’s patriotism or his military service. In fact, on Wednesday VP Dick Cheney said he “honored” Kerry’s service in Viet Nam. President Bush has continued to voice that same sentiment. So, are the Democrats (as they have before) going to redefine yet another word? Is ‘honor’ now going to be characterized as something negative? Sen. Zell Miller (with whom I agree) is the only speaker who even remotely questioned Kerry’s patriotism; a question that bears answering considering Kerry’s after-the- Viet Nam-war activities. Those actions, my friends WERE and are unpatriotic and gave undeniable “aid and comfort” to the enemy. That’s called something far more insidious than “unpatriotic”. Although most of Kerry’s Springfield speech isn’t even worth mentioning, he continued to talk about the President having “misled” us into war with Iraq (a Kerry/Dem/mainstream media claim that has been disproved multiple times) and job losses (Kerry still refuses to acknowledge the huge impact 9/11 had on the economy). Even though Kerry has said he would have voted for war with Iraq, despite his assertion of “misleading”, and the fact that job growth and the economy are up; still Kerry persists with his rubbish. Kerry, the Dems and their old mainstream media PR machine will continue to disperse their twaddle.

Last night, President Bush ended his speech with the dynamic: “…Having come this far, our tested and confident Nation can achieve anything” and “Like generations before us, we have a calling from beyond the stars to stand for freedom. This is the everlasting dream of America and tonight, in this place, that dream is renewed. Now we go forward grateful for our freedom, faithful to our cause, and confident in the future of the greatest nation on earth. God bless you, and may God continue to bless America.”

On the other hand, Kerry said dourly: “I believe it's time we had a president who told the American people the truth.” Considering all of the well-documented lies he’s already told and been caught in, that person is not and cannot be John Forbes Kerry.
