Sept. 2, 2004 I want to address something, I never ever wrote anything political on this particular website, because quite frankly I think we see a lot of columns that involve politics and I take it upon myself to be the monkey wrench to bring up other issues that has nothing to do with politics. Until today. I was watching the Republican National Convention and heard a man who is a Democrat, yet he supports the Republican. I want to address Mr. Zell Miller’s speech and his battle with Chris Matthews. I was listening to Mr. Miller’s speech and it was energetic, yet it was ludicrous. I agreed with him about the family issue, and how we should support our troops, and how we should support our troops with votes to bring weapons to our troops. However, Mr. Miller is saying things to me and the citizens of our country that we already know. Mr. Miller attacked poets, agitators, protestors, and even columnists, just like the columnists on this website.. He attacked me personally, and that angers me, because it was like he was saying that someone who does have the right to write whatever he or she wants to write doesn’t take our troops seriously, as if we take them for granted for risking their lives for us so we can write columns just like this one. I hope Mr. Miller realizes that I DO thank every troop I see for risking their lives for me, I support them one hundred percent. However, Mr. Miller fails to realize that he is at a convention, a convention where the poet can vote, the protestor can vote, the agitator can vote, and even the columnist can vote for whomever he or she wants. I don’t think Mr. Miller realizes that most of the votes come from these people, and by attacking them isn’t going to make his choice candidate President. Mr. Miller said that it is our troops that give us this freedom; no kidding? Obviously it’s not people like Zell Miller, because we would obviously have a traitor on our hands. Because, keep in mind, he’s a Democrat supporting a Republican; sounds like a traitor to me. The last time something like that happened the Civil War started. To make matters worse was the fight between Chris Matthews and Mr. Zell Miller. I couldn’t tell you what the fight was about, because all I heard from Mr. Miller was “What?” and “Shut up!” Mr. Miller, is that how you communicate with your people in Georgia? Telling them to shut up and then just not listen to them altogether? For god’s sake he wanted to challenge Chris Matthews to a duel. Wow, isn’t that assault? Mr. Miller reminds me a lot of the representatives who worked for Nixon; they hated the hippies, because they voiced their opinions. I’m not trying to say don’t vote for Bush, just because some old jackass like Zell Miller talks down about people like me and maybe a person like yourself. No, I’m not a soldier. Yes, I am a poet, and damn proud of it. Yes, I am a college student, and damn proud of it. Yes, I am a protestor, and damn proud of it. Yes, I am an author and love to speak my mind, and I am very damn proud of it, and it was because of the troops and the veterans who fought before that I have this right to speak my mind. Mr. Miller, you are a straight shooter, and I respect you for that, but sometimes your “wobbly bowl of mush” you call a speech was nothing but a direct attack to the youth of America and those that love to speak their mind. You might want to do yourself, your party, and the party you want to be in, a favor, and shut up. ------------ About the author Eric Schomburg: Visit http://www.geocities.com/schomburg2002.
