Life In School After Holiday

By Olamide Ayeni
Oct. 31, 2004

There are times that i just feel like not been an undergraduate. I hate the stress of going for lectures. I hate the fact that i have to start reading again for good ten hours. My summer break is over and i'm back in school. The break was a real opportunity for me to increase my writting skills. It was an oppourtunity that was worth more than rubies. I joined useless-knowledge success train during this same break.

Back in school for another section, it has been one work or the other. I must wake up by 6.30am to take my bath and prepare for lectures while struggling at the same time to get a space to sit in lectures rooms. I know somebody out there wants to know why i had to struggle for space. The answer is simple because, the level of education in my country is becoming unbearable and dangerous and only the rich who can afford to pay their children's fees through private institution are enjoying.

After my normal and usual stuggling for space then, i had to sruggle to sit at the front row because my lecturers can decide not to talk loud or may be there is a power failure which has become part and parcel of my country surprises for the poor masses or better still, the school generator has a fault. Not minding the odour and heat that greets you anytime you enter the lecture room because there are no fans or aircondition in there or let's say the fans cannot blow without power supply. What a poor situation.

Even after lectures, i still have to walk almost two kilometres in the sun to my hostel because cabs don't ply my own hostel route. I guess somebody can see the reason why i don't want to be an undergraduate anymore. The problems mentioned above are not applicable to all tertiary institutions in the country but, to some precisely those owns by states.

Like i said, i have resumed in school and browsing cost a lot apart from the fact that i have to lose a day sleep in other to browse at night, if i really know i want a fulfilled browsing. I will keep all my loved ones posted on things happening in school.
