Oct. 31, 2004 Much has been written and voiced about the Democrats coming October surprise. So far nothing has been seen or heard that qualifies as a surprise. There are a scant few hours left for something spectacular to happen. It’s time to consider some of the possibilities; The Democrats have the ability to turn incidentals into monumental’s, lets consider some of the recent events. Chelsea Clinton made her first political speech in Tampa Florida this week indorsing John Kerry. That is a surprise; one would think Hillary would saved that one for her run for president in 2008. [I doubt this qualifies.] Osama bin Laden indorses John Kerry without mentioning his name. Is this one of those world leaders John Kerry talked about at the beginning of his campaign? If I were Kerry I would walk away from that one. Walter Cronkite suggests Karl Rove the presidents right hand man concocted the bin Laden tape to give President Bush a boost in the election. It may in the long run. Its doubtful even Karl Rove could pull that off. It’s more doubtful it helps Kerry. John Kerry insisting Bush is planning a draft. We know it was the Democrats who proposed then leaked that one just to create an issue to slow Bush down. It didn’t grow legs, it’s doubtful that’s the October Surprise. Dan Rather discovering George Bush served his military service in the Texas Air National Guard. The liberal media give little credit to Bush spending over 500 hours in a Jet-fighter as meaningful service. For others up there with Bush who were protecting the skies over America, I’m sure they feel it counts. I know I do. The controversy over the weapons at Al-Qaqaa facility probably is the October surprise the Kerry campaign had in mind. Unfortunately they let their enthusiasm get ahead of the facts. George Bush, Dick Cheney and Don Rumsfield didn’t guard the Al-Qaqaa facility the US Army was in charge. Is Kerry suggesting the Army was remiss in their duties? Is there an October Surprise or is it there’s no surprise after all? Have we been deceived by all the build-up only to be let down? Do we end October with only little cookie crunchers begging for morsels at our doors as our only excitement we have to look forward to? This is about as entertaining as learning Little Red Riding Hood married the Big Bad Wolf and lived happily ever after. When this election is over I intend to write Senator John McCain [maybe all fifty Senators] suggesting they create meaningful reforms putting the responsibility for compliance on the Congress and not all on the public. If congress has no rules to follow then why should the public be restricted in what they say, do and contribute? Tuesday November 2nd 2004 ------------ Follow the Wit and Wisdom of Uncle Ken.
