Oct. 31, 2004 Yawn! The entire nation set their clocks back One Hour. Once again, I must stay awake at least two hours longer in the evening, to acclimate my mind and body. This is done, so that I will not wake-up one hour earlier than usual. The acclimation process usually takes about two weeks, and is assisted by late night television. Oh, the joys of watching Infomercials, 1970's movies, and MTV! I really look forward to this acclimation process - NOT! Snore City! This morning, I awoke at 7:30am. In my mind, it was really 8:30am. Try telling my Cicada Rhythms, that it was 7:30am. Did I really need to open my eyes at 7:30am, ON A SUNDAY MORNING? I think not... Here it is, Sunday, Sunday, Sunday! The clock reads 8:30am. However, my mind and body still states that it is 9:30am. This discussion will inhabit the inner workings of my mind and confuse my body, for at least two weeks longer. One would think, since I am 50 years young, that this issue would have been resolved by now. However, it still temporarily disrupts my intellect. (Yeah, I can read your minds. You are thinking "Right! What Intellect!!!") "Spring Forward, Fall Back," has this sexy ring to it. However, I find nothing sensual about my body and mind, being one hour ahead of the clock. What I find amazing... Everyone in this country, without question, does the Spring Forward, Fall Back ritual clock thing - every six months. Picture in your mind, over 100 million people - at the same time - at the same exact moment, adjusting the time on their alarm clocks, kitchen clocks, analog watches, microwave oven clocks, stove clocks, and let's not forget the clocks in their cars. The nice thing about computers, they are smart enough to perform this function - automatically! This brings up an interesting point. Do you not think that we, as a great industrial, technological society, could have had the foresight to invent alarm clocks, kitchen clocks, analog watches, microwave clocks, stove clocks, and clocks in cars, to adjust themselves - each season? Right now, as you read this - someone, somewhere, is running around their house, adjusting the time on their clocks. The one thing great about a non-functioning clock - is that it is "correct," twice a day (I had to throw that one in). This brings up another point: How does one adjust sundials? I mean, some are so heavy - and cemented in the ground.... There are going to be at least ten percent of the population of this great country, who are going to show up at work - Monday morning, one hour earlier than usual, due to the fact, that they where "unaware" of the Fall Back, Spring Forward conundrum. Have you had a "One Hour Late, One Hour Early" experience, due to this Fall Back, Spring Forward situation - that you would like to share?
