Oct. 31, 2004 I am a college student at the University of Texas of the Permian Basin, and I am a very non- traditional student. I am 51 years of age. Recently, I was sitting in the student union lounge and one of the girls sitting there was reading scriptures from the bible to another student. I sat and listened intently to what the girl reading was saying; she was not only reading from the bible, but from her heart as well. She noticed me listening and asked me if I was offending her, and at that point, I saw the look of fear in her eyes of the possiblility of her offending me. "no", I told her, "you are not offending me, in fact, it's somewhat relaxing to her you read". She beamed a huge smile at me and continued to read. Beliefs are a big part of who we are as human beings, support in those beliefs are just as important. I have noticed that our society has not only drifted to ideology of self- absorbancy but to self-involvement as well that restricts the concept of sharing, caring, love, and compassion. All these concepts have seemed to become necessary only to the individual, in other words, we are rapidly becoming more and more associational and less communal from one generation to the next. Productivity is more in the commerialism of status and less in the home and the family. Time? When do we have time to examine these losses in true spectulation and see the world within ourselves as it sees us? I was not born to die as a "worker" for the system, my life is mine, my gift to myself from my parents, my body is MY temple and as far as God goes, all God ever wanted me to know about being spiritual resides within me and my ability to share with others the treasures I have within without fear of offending others. God is not about religion, God is about Spirituality within one's self and about sharing that with others. ------------ About the author William Allen Vaughn: In 1987, I had a bad car accident that left me dead, after the paramedics tried everything, I was pronounced dead at 4:32pm.
