Oct. 31, 2004 Senator Tom Harkin says God wants John Kerry to win the coming election. What more do we need to know to make our choice. I think Tom’s confused I don’t think it was God whispering in his ear I think it was Terry McAuliffe pretending to be God. If God wants John Kerry to win he has better ways of making it happen than telling an old political almost-was about it. Walter Cronkite once called the most respected Journalist in America has asserted Karl Rove the Presidents right-hand man is responsible for Osama bin Laden coming out of his cave where- ever it is, to make his appeal for Americans to reject George Bush next week. Cronkite thinks it will give Bush a boost and that’s why Rove did it and it probably will. I have my doubts Rove could pull it off. Cronkite has of late been reduced to Wal-Mart ribbon cutting ceremonies and a few Washington Dinners honoring old has- beens like him-self. These days he’s willing to settle for a single sound bit for attention, truth be damned. Osama Bin Laden came on television after nearly three years absence and makes a speech supporting John Kerry [with out mentioning his name.] Maybe Osama and Tom Harkin have been out of the loop to long. Old men who were listened to once but have lost their appeal as infuential spokesmen often ramble for the sake of being heard. Their observations need not even make sense it’s the opportunity to speak that counts in their minds. Contrary to what we hear this isn’t the worst presidential campaign by a long shot. Wilkey vs. Roosevelt, Dewey vs. Truman, Goldwater vs. Johnson others preceding those have been much harsher in their rhetoric than this one. There’ve been more personal attacks in this campaign than I recall in the past. In the past the candidates had more respect for each other personally. It isn’t only on one side it’s on both sides. Republicans have done their share of fact manipulation as have the Democrats. Much of it the public accepts as only politics others they make choices on. All we know about our candidates we get from the media, Television, Radio and Print, therefore it should be incumbent on the media to report fair and balanced. That’s asking a lot considering only two groups operate with total immunity, Bounty-hunters and Reporters. The media is self regulated they have only self imposed standards to operate by. I doubt the founding fathers intended it to be so the media has evolved into an untouchable society of elitists accountable to no one. Better this than a government controlled media. By the will of God or by evolution nature has a way of correcting all ills. Every time something goes to far astray God or something brings it back into balance. The sky isn’t falling, the world isn’t about to come to an end and that hole in the Ozone layer is earths exhaust. Earth as all things needs an escape valve especially during elections, what with all that hot air the political parties are pumping out earth needs relief. Every two years Americans are asked to perform a civic duty. We are asked to select our leaders. Democracy isn’t an American invention but it has been defined by America. The rest of the world tries to emulate Americas success of a political process by the people adjusted to their own customs. Two hundred thirty years ago the world was ruled by Kings and Tyrants today half the world is free to select its own government. It was America that set the standard. It was America that gave the people the right of choice. It is every eligible Americans duty to vote. To often what we don’t use we lose. November 2nd Vote if you don’t like the choices write in your Mother-in-Laws name. Don’t waste what others dream of having and don’t.
