On 'Friends'

When the sitcom, 'Friends' was on the air, I tried to watch it several times, but found that I could not relate to it in a few ways. First, my friends do not and have not lived in the same apartment building as I have, and if they did, maybe we would not have been friends, for how many of us really strike up serious, long term bonds with our neighbours?

It just seems that in order for one to become friends with one's neighbours, they have to share at least one unique experience, especially if they, the neighbours did not know each other prior to whatever occurrence that made them aware of each other's existence, like for example, maybe part of the building in which you live caught on fire. Then when you are all standing around outside, waiting for clearance from the authorities, to re-enter the building, you become acquainted with your neighbours, thus perhaps making you known to the others' existence and vice versa. Otherwise, most people are just too busy to stop and socialise with the folks next door. Also the glamourous setting was not there for me.

Maybe the city in which I am is not by any stretch of the imagination, as glamourous as the city in which these 'Friends' lived: mainly, New York City, and I think in order to get the full affect of the show, one has to have that hurried, always busy type of life. Not forgetting the around the corner coffee shop in which all the 'friends' gather and discuss the goings on in their own lives. In all reality, most people are preoccupied with their own agenda and end of day activities to meet and converse at the local coffee establishment. All in all, 'Friends' was a good show though especially from the worldwide appeal I noticed that it had together with the large viewing audience it got here at home, it just did not get to me enough to motivate me to watch each and every episode.
