Oct. 29, 2004 When I first saw the movie, 'Shallow Hal' I was amazed that a Hollywood movie maker was forthright enough to reveal a trait that some of us possess, you know, someone like 'Hal' who is shallow or superficial. We see examples of this just about everywhere we go, take a restaurant, at the table across from yours; young man is with young woman who has a slender physique and looks like someone you'd see in an actual movie, the young dude may not be too handsome himself, but his girl has to be so he can show her off to his friends in an ostentatious sort of way as if to silently say:'Hey, look what I got.' Then there is the perfection issue, for some people will not settle for someone who's head over heels in love with them because he/she might not be a propos or suitable enough. They may have some flaws like maybe a not so cute nose or dark hair, especially if some people are bent on garnering a blonde. I guess love may not be as blind as we sometimes think it is. Are some of us just being too complicated when it comes to matters of the heart? I think some of us are, and what is more thought provoking is that, those not so perfect ones are sitting at home every Friday night instead of being out on that date, for they have been hurt so many times. Especially when the one seeking the 'perfect' mate tells the one with the minor flaws that he/she is breaking off their social affialiation for whatever reason. Now I'm not saying you should go out with someone just because he/she is not what you might consider suitable, but is anybody really perfect? Look around, we all have some flaw or another, whether it is the way we talk or it could be a physical one like maybe one lip is too thin or thick. For perfection is something for which we strive, not obtain overnight. ------------ About the author Judy Ramsook: My first book titled: "Karen's Adventure" which is about two young girls who go in search of their missing parents, is now available.
