Oct. 27, 2004 I hope to show three things with this article: 1. That our troops are in danger from terrorism. 2. That every dollar spent on oil or gas supports terrorism. 3. That the average American can lower his or her gas usage painlessly, and thus fight terrorism at home. One of the stated reasons for over 1000 American soldiers, men and women, dying in Iraq is the terrorist attacks on the World Trade Center and Pentagon. Over 8000 of our guys have been injured, often perminently, with the loss of arms, legs, or eyes, in Iraq. The terrorist attack on the Cole cost 17 men, Beruit cost 241 loyal Marines thier lives. Our boys and girls are coming home in body bags because of terrorists. I should say before I start this that I own stock in Tesoro, a oil refinery. If you buy Tesoro gas, drilled in Alaska or California, refined in Washington or Alaska, never touching Arab hands, and waste it, you still support terrorism. The reason why is that when you waste a gallon of American gas, someone else has to buy Arab gas. This drives up the price of the oil. The terrorist attacks are not free, the bombs, guns, plane tickets, and 747 flying lessons cost a lot of money. So does paying room and board for terrorists to hide until they can strike. This money comes from Oil. Only a fraction of a penny from each gallon of gas pays for the terrorists, but the ability of terrorists to attack is dependant on the price of oil. If we, as Americans, want to strike back, we just have to do the little things to lower the cost of Oil. So how do we use less oil? Coast... no, I mean it. Stay a few seconds further behind the person in front of you, and when you need to slow down, coast, rather than braking. Don't do so unsafely, keep your foot by the brake pedal. Walk, it is healthier, and saves a lot of gas, just for short trips, but still, or bike. Go a little slower when you don't have somewhere to go, if you are not in a hurry, why waste gas getting there faster? Don't "Rev," your engine, you don't need to use gas when you are stopped, do you? Well, I hope I did what I set out to do, at least think about it, will you? ------------ Email Aaron Baker: aaror@writing.com Tell a friend about this site! ------------ |
