Oct. 26, 2004 Over the past 48 hours the media magicians have been busy showing us their version of a slight of hand trick. Face it, P.T. Barnum would have swooned, and Lilly Langtree would have shouted, "Hello Suckers" as media outlets around the world dared us to take our eye of the ball. Pelting the Bush Administration with accusations of losing 440 tons of explosives capable of nuclear destruction in Iraq while raising the question of who may have taken them under the nose of the Bush military? Insurgent forces where the most mentioned across the board. Handled as hot news, this brought world wide attention and a boastful John Kerry jumping on the bandwagon pointing out how inept President Bush is while he of course would never lose anything, not so much as a grain of sand. Close your eyes and you can see Teresa looking under the bed one last time before departing Motel 1600. Unfortunately, the media masterminds know us to well. The talk at the bubbler was of a bumbling president or what effect the death of a curse would play on the presidential elections. While we wondered out loud what or when the explosives would be unleashed on our brave men and women. Nearly 24 hours into the news cycle, searching for more information about the impending doom we are give more details. The explosives it seems where tagged by the UN inspectors prior to the war in Iraq. In fact, these explosives where gone even before the U.S. arrived. Yet Kerry continued to place the blame on President Bush. The fact that you cannot lose what you do not have meaning nothing to him or the media. A quick search of the back pages of the NYT’s suggested the magician’s trick worked. Buried was an article of interest and concern. The U.N. Security council denies having met with John Kerry, ever! But surely there is some confusion here. John Kerry running on the "I have integrity and will never lie to the American people" platform said he did. He said it in the debate; he said it the next day. I know he said it because it made me take a second look at him as my Presidential choice. He said it, I watched the videotape. So, why was this story one that confirms the candidate of truth and integrity lied to the world when he said he had met with them personally get upstaged by a non story of nonexistent explosives? Follow the ball boy, keep your eye on the cup! Yes, P.T. Barnum couldn't have done it better. The media making magic to sway an election is the only thing that comes to mind. Oh well, there is the other question. Why? ------------ Email jeffrileysmail@yahoo.com ------------ |
