Oct. 25, 2004 Trick Or Treat... Ninth Century Europe, called souling. On November 2, All Saints Day, Christians would walk village to village begging for soul cakes. The more soul cakes, the more prayers the beggars promised to say for the donors' deceased, At that time souls were believed to remain in limbo after death and beggars prayers would expedite the passage to Heaven. Jack-O-Lantern... Irish folklore... A man named Jack, known as a drunkard and trickster, tricked satan into climbing a tree. Then Jack carved a cross in the tree's trunk, trapping the devil. Once the devil was trapped, Jack made a deal with the devil to free him from the tree. The deal being the devil must never tempt Jack again. Folk tale has it, that when Jack died he was denied passage to Heaven because of his evil ways and denied passage to Hell as to his tricking the devil. How-ever the devil gave Jack a tiny burning ember as to light his way through the frigid darkness. The ember was placed in a hollowed out turnip to keep it glowing longer. The Irish then began using hollowed out turnips as their "Jack's Lanterns". The Immigrants found pumpkins were more plentiful in America.--- Jack-O-Lantern. Although some cults have adopted Halloween as their favorite holiday, the day itself did not originate from evil practices. It grew out of the Celts, New Year celebration and out of Midevil prayer rituals of Europeans. Afterall the day itself is only as evil as one cares to make it. So see all you witches trying to take a day of good fun wholesome clean family fun of creativity and imaginations away, you should be Honored that the witch is used as a symbol on Halloween. For the Witch, The Hobgoblins and Ghosts, chase all the evil away!!! There have been enough sick and twisted people throughout the years to take the old fashioned type of Halloweens I grew up with, in the cities, away. That's more than enough to take the fun away from the kids of today, who'll never know and feel what it was like to be a kid on Halloween, in my days, unless of course you come to Parker. OH! One More Week I can hardly wait!!! {I'm not of any cult by the way}! I'm just Irish and I'm just a big kid that dresses up too, on Halloween and enjoys the whole day!!! Have a Safe and Fun Night of "Trick or Treat". Hope only Treats come your way! No tricks or deals with the devil ever, ok? Promise me. HAPPY HALLOWEEN!!! God Bless the World. ------------ About the author Tracey Lin O'Very: I write from my heart as the words are given to me. He lives in our hearts and helps me, through my writings.
