Why Not John Kerry, I'll Tell You Why....

By Rion E. Mosley
Oct. 25, 2004

This is yet another response to an Article published on October 22, 2004 by Nicolas Morrow. As usual my responses to statements made by the first author will be bolded and in italics.

As we all know the presidential election inches ever closer, and it will be a big election! Probably one of the biggest. Many people have decided that they will vote for John Kerry and many have decided they shall vote for George W. Bush. Statistic wise, John Kerry would be the better president!

(First of all what statistics are we talking about, obviously not his voting record, nor his attendance record, and probably not even his speaking record while he has been a Senator, because they are all lacking in consistency. I think that the proceeding points constitute his “statistics”.)

He has been through a massive war (Are we talking about Viet-Nam? This is the same war in which John Kerry deferred 4 times before finally reluctantly going. Then he served in combat for only four months while most men were required for 6-9 months service. OR are we talking about the Iraqi conflict in 1993? That would be the same war in which Kerry voted against the use of Force to remove Saddam from Kuwait. Or are we talking about today, when Kerry voted for the use of Force and then voted against funding the troops with necessities.)

fought to be a senator (Sure he fought to be a Senator, but there are not that many Senators that just walk into the Senate that are asked to represent their state.)

and is all for the American way (what in the Hell kind of reason is this? First of all there are many points to the contrary on that statement. Kerry is most certainly not for the American way, at least from my perspective. To me America is Teddy Roosevelt, “walk softly and carry a big stick”, John F. Kennedy, “Ask not what your country can do for you, but what you can do for your country”. Most certainly George W. Bush, when he said. ”They {referring to the Terrorist} will soon hear from us”. It is not the American way to let the political climate of the world dictate what we can and cannot do in regards to defending our sovereignty.)

Bush, on the other hand, has failed every company he has owned (That is not entirely true, for the simple fact that George W. Bush has never been the sole-owner of any one company, I will say that some of the companies that he has run have failed, but if I am not mistaken, he was the managing partner in the Texas Rangers, and they didn’t fail, in fact they are a thriving franchise right now.)

has started a war that will simply NOT cease (If I am not mistaken, this war was not started by the United States, most people point to 9/11, I don’t I look further back than that. The start occurred back to the late 70’s, while Carter was in office. It was the first time that US citizens were abducted by those of militant Islam; did Carter do anything to get those hostages out? Hell, No he was having a horrible Presidency. Regan got into office, {one of the greatest Presidents of the modern era} and determined that he would end the Cold War with and “Aggressive Policy.” Those hostages were release on inauguration day, by the way. Which, by the way Kerry voted against the escalation that ended the Cold War. Then there was Bush senior, who kick Saddam out of Kuwait, and sat a precedent in policy for the way that the US would deal with hostile actions against the US or its allies. Then we have Clinton, who acted unilaterally against the Terrorist in Kosovo, but that was OK because Clinton was a Democrat. Also on Clinton’s 8 year watch, American interest was attacked around the World and then the WTC bombing of 1993 happened, and what was our response? Nothing, we fired one missile towards Baghdad. Finally Bush came to power, a serious attack occurred on our soil, the like of which have not been seen since World War II, and people demand satisfaction, this totally falls in line with American Policy, that even Clinton used in Kosovo.)

and completely ignored our country needs! (Ignored or Country’s needs? Many of the reforms that had been on the agenda for years, Bush was able to push through, better funding and more accountability for public schools, prescription drug benefits on medicare, pollution relief from diesel fuel emission, and the list goes on….)

Bush has become a war lord really. (What basis in fact is there for this statement, for it too be true he would have to act independently. Completely autonomous from Congress and the Senate, and yet for each action that he has undertaken he has gotten the proper approval.)

Recently, there have been rumors that the Catholic Church has rallied against Kerry. (The Catholic church does not officially support one candidate over the other, however there are a number of the Catholic hierarchy in the United States that do not support Kerry.)

This is all because he supports the woman's right to chose. And yes, he is pro-choice, not just for abortion! (Listen, I could solve the Pro-Choice Pro-Life question quickly, I call it Pro-Responsibility. It’s real easy, there is a reason that people get married, I still hold those values, although I know that I am in the minority now a days. So my thought is this, if a women has any say in the matter, and she gets pregnant, accept the responsibility. There are several cases that I know would justify an abortion. But that is it, To me, it shouldn’t even be a political question.)

I am a Catholic man, and I support Kerry through and through. (Glad to hear that you profess to be Catholic, guess you just don’t agree with the Doctrine of your faith, which is alright, but I thought those people were called Protestant?)

Besides the fact that he supports abortion Bush supports the death penalty! (Bush doesn’t support abortion, he has stated as much.) In fact, Bush put to death nearly 200 people while he was Governor of Texas. (Are you telling me that murderers in the first degree have a right to life after they have taken the life of another innocent? Explain that in terms of you professing to be Catholic? Too me there really isn’t even a question, I have a couple of daughters, and I feel a lot safer knowing people that could possibly hurt or even kill them have been put to death. I think that the punishment should fit the crime.)

He also has created a war in which the Catholics do not like either.(Are you saying all Catholics, or just you that don’t agree with it. I can say with complete confidence that you are in a minority in your opposition to the war in terms of you being a Catholic.)

So what will it be? A fallen economy, the death penalty, and a draft? (This statement… Alright, I will first address a fallen economy. To answer this fallen economy question we must go back to Jimmy Carter and his failed Economic policy, in which the next President had to bail him out. Carter used the liberal way of thinking in terms of his policy, big government, coupled with more taxation. This worked for him for about 4 years. Regan won an overwhelming victory and basically had to rescue an economy that was in the toilet. His plan called for massive deficit spending, which in the long run would buoy up the economy and move us into the Black in 12-15 years. After 8 years, Bush senior was elected and continued the above mentioned policy, and the budget show clear signs of recovery. As Clinton was elected, the .com boom started and strengthened an already hardy economy. But because of his liberal spending policies, the Economy was headed in the crapper again after 8 years, and Bush inherited a recession, that coupled with a major attack on the WTC thrust the economy even further down the tubes. But too his credit, the recession tide was turned with some shrewd economic policy and a tax-relief package. Plus the current unemployment rate is lower than when Clinton took office, so all major indicators are pointing to a recovering economy. As for the death penalty, I support it you already know that, and there is no draft!!!!)

Or will it be a single human life. Bush is 1 for 2 in the Catholics' eyes. (What I don’t understand his implication in regard to how Bush is perceived to Catholics, well I guess to his brand of Catholicism.)

All in all, a life is a life, and there is nothing else to it. Bush simply thinks those soldiers in Iraq and Afghanistan are his chess pieces on a gameboard. We are NOT chess pieces, and we never will be chess pieces! (Apparently, Mr. Morrow doesn’t understand how the United States armed forces works, because simply put the people in uniform unquestionably will do what they are asked. With their eyes open, they will lay down their life if the mission requires it, I doubt that you Mr. Morrow have ever been near a war zone. But I bet that you have enjoyed the freedoms that others have sacrificed for you to have. So I do not believe that Bush looks at life like Chess in reference to Iraq or Afghanistan. I guess put in the same situations that the President has been put in, you would have made different choices especially by not sending Americans over to Iraq or Afghanistan. Is the world a better place with out Saddam or the Taliban? Of course it is, so the Bush policy must be working.)

It is our choice to pick which rightful, and deserving man is honored to be our president. (If this is a reference to Florida in 2000 I should smack you. Gore lost, deal with it. According to the Constitution, the man with more Electoral College votes wins, and Bush had the clear majority. In Florida, Gore accused Bush of dissuading black voters of voting. The reality of that whole situation is that Gore couldn’t handle that he lost a predominantly Democratic state. First off, Gore tried to steal the election by just holding recounts in certain counties where he held the great advantages, however the only way to do a recount would be to do it state wide. Several independent entities did just that such as USA today, the Wall Street Journal, Washington Post and even ABC news. They all had the state going to Bush by 500- 2200 votes. Democrats have made a big mistake in their estimation that Jeb Bush has as governor. Since 2000, a republican Congressman and slew of State Senators have been elected. These people all won by landslides in former Democratic strongholds in the state. No voting irregularities were seen as all state elections since 2000 have been monitored. Michael Moore’s sensationalism aside, the State has quietly become more conservative as more and more people move into the state.)

Truthfully, Kerry is one of the bravest men I have ever seen, considering that he would be taking over a country that is in debt, and a war that could last a lifetime!

(Wow, what a statement, of course if Kerry is the bravest man you have ever seen, then you must have been blind for long time. Bush has done an admirable job in defending this country; reviving a slumping Clinton era economy, and being an all around descent American. As for the points about the economy, Regan inherited an economy in far worse shape than this one. In terms of the war on Terror, if it takes a lifetime to win, it is worth it. I think that in Kerry’s words, “The War of Terror will become like the War on Drugs, not on the minds of the people, allowing them to get back to the normality of life. Well Mr. Kerry the world changed on 9/11 and like you those people that believe that it didn’t, don’t live in reality. )

You pick, it's your choice.

(In my opinion the choice is clear. A vote for Kerry is not a vote for the America that I grew up in, it’s not a vote for the America I want to continue to build for my children. Most importantly I think that John Kerry is not the right choice for the America that I live in. If you are going to vote, please vote for morals, vote for compassion, vote for that person that is right for the country.)
