Manly Anger? [Ann Coulter Column]

By David Allen Jared
Oct. 21, 2004

Ann Coulter ends her most recent column with the following comment:

"If only we could get Democrats to show a little of that manly anger toward the terrorists, maybe Americans would be able to trust them with national security."

How utterly true! The Democrats are FURIOUS with President Bush--mostly because he beat "their guy" in 2000 by concentrating his efforts on the electoral college instead of the popular vote, but also, because he's currently showing them what a real President does in response to attacks on this country. Instead of lobbing a few multi- million-dollar missiles at an aspirin factory and hitting a camel in the butt with another, he's chosen to beard the lion in his own den and proceed to kick his fanny. In the Democrat's world, presuming to hold OBL and other terrorists and sponsors of terrorism actually accountable, constitutes hubris of the worst sort. After all, these people are only attacking us because we.....what was it again? Maybe it's because we've made them fabulously wealthy with our dollars in exchange for their oil. No, that doesn't make any sense. Maybe it's because we don't want to see madmen like Saddam Hussein get his hands on nuclear devices or use his stockpiles of chemical and biological weapons against his neighbors. No. wait! Only a very few of them cared one whit that he started a war with Iran and invaded Kuwait and threatened Saudi Arabia--only the Iranians, Kuwaitis and Saudis seemed to give a damn. Well, maybe these people hate us so because they don't like McDonalds' hamburgers, rock and roll, or seeing our women running around in thong bathing suits. Hmmmmmm! Well, probably not that either. Why then?

Maybe the Islamic terrorists hate us because we've remained steadfast allies (more or less, dependent upon who's President) of Israel--a little third-rate country that's consistently beaten their butts every time they've been attacked. Maybe the hate us just because they NEED someone to hate to divert the attention of their people from the misery they suffer at the hands of those in charge who are bent on living in the 8th Century. Maybe they long for the Caliphate or are seeking the Mah'di who is promised to lead them in Holy Jihad and drive out all the infidels from their respective countries and expand Islam to the entire world and OBL is just the LASTEST pretender to that role.

Whatever the reason, Democrats seem to think that Bush's opposition to terrorist States is jingoistic and we have no business "interfering" with the way they chose to behave--even if their behavior is vicious, brutal and murderous towards their own people AND their neighbors. Democrats have opposed every war since WWII--even thought they STARTED a few of 'em themselves. North Korea didn't attack us. They attacked SOUTH Korea. For that matter, Germany and Italy didn't attack us in 1941. That was Japan. But somehow FDR and company decided to respond to Pearl Harbor by declaring war on Germany and Italy, as well as Japan. The Vietnam war was the construct of both JFK AND LBJ, but the idiotic way they CONDUCTED the war caused even their own supporters to turn against it. When the first President Bush decided to oust Saddam from Kuwait, John Kerry voted in opposition to giving him the authority to do so, as did a large number of Democrats in both Houses. What we're engaged in today isn't REALLY a new war in Iraq, but rather an extension of the old one since Saddam categorically refused to live up to the smallest point in his surrender agreement that he signed in 1991 and continually defied the rest of the world (or at least those not on his payroll like France, Germany and Russia) when it demanded that he abandon his ambitions to acquire (and, undoubtedly, eventually USE) Weapons of Mass Destruction.

If you doubt that Saddam would still be running things in Iraq under a Kerry Presidency, just listen to his campaign rhetoric and take note that he's switched opinions under a GOP administration from what he professed when Clinton was in the White House. Don't you think it's about time that the Democrats FINALLY get a pair and redirect some of the anger heretofore reserved for GOP towards the REAL enemies of the United States? So do I, but given their recent behavior, I'm not going to hold my breath.
