Oct. 9, 2004 I find myself so frustrated at the world's view point on Americans based on media persuasion. We are all not the loud mouthed, arrogant tyrants, that the media has lead the world to believe. No one can help the image that their government has in the rest of the world. A whole country of people is not to blame for what is political bull. There seems to be a notion that Americans think the world revolves around them. The opposite is the facts, of the matter. If we have gotten a bad rap because we stand up for ourselves and can speak what we feel. Maybe its because other countries governments are afraid that the people in their countries will start wanting to have some of the same freedoms Americans have? I believe that jealousy runs deep and that makes Americans the bad guys, because of it. So we Americans speak our minds. Shouldn't everyone have that right? Is it fair to blame Americans for what your country doesn't allow you to do? That we can do. Why is it that only the negatives are focused on, especially in the media? What about all the good stuff Americans do, both individually and as a country? I use to think," Oh well we Americans have big shoulders. We can take it!" I'm starting to feel like the load is getting to heavy and I'm sick of the burden. How many times has another country begged, pleaded and cried to have our men and women in the military to come over and get there butt's out of trouble? Too many, if you ask this American! Then you got Americans that bash their own country, hold rallies and betray their own country. What is up with that??? Its good to speak your mind, my problem is, how the bad things are always remembered and the good is forgotten. What would the world do if we stopped servicing them and really did just worry about us? Do you think they'd be happy? I say, "NO WAY!" We'd be bashed for that too. Where the heck is a happy medium? Is it to be like other countries that are dominated by tyrants? Would that make the world happy? All this reminds me of the popularity contests that goes on when your a kid at school. If your not in the "IN Crowd", you are an out cast. Give me a break! Wake Up America! We need to just do the best we can and ignore all the popularity contests. Its not going to make them any happier, anyway. We will always be considered arrogant, loud mouths. ------------ About the author Bonnie Florea: I am a poet, author, freelance writer and columnist.
