Hot Or Not?

By L.J. Chapman
Oct. 18, 2004

So here I am watching my stupid roommate play online, I don't know why I am doing this, but for some reason, I am. And he goes to a site called hotornot.com and submits a picture of himself to be rated by other random people who themeselves are signed up on this very site. I look at him like he is a few french fries short of a Happy Meal and walk away.

But, lo and behold, the very next day, my curiousity peaks and I, myself, go on to the site, and submit a picture of my own. Then I go and start rating other people. How shallow am I? Very.

See you rate on a scale of 1 to 10. 1 being not hot, 10 being hot. I didn't realize how critical I was of the human species until I gave out a few ones and twos. This is ridiculous, I think to myself as I rate a guy a 7.

I check my own rating, not high enough, submit a new picture, check rating, not high enough, sumbit a new picture, check rating, not high enough, sumbit ANOTHER new picture, check rating, doing pretty good.

The next thing I know, everyone is on it. My mom, my cousin, my cousin's Max, a couple of our friends, one of my buddies from Virginia, I even put a pic of Josh in his Marine blues on. (He got a 9.2 by the way).

So here I am rating and judging, judging and rating, and having a damn good time doing it. My friends and I send links of other guys back and forth to rate. We laugh at our own results, and sometimes, we even get a little upset.

I guess my roommate is right, shallow is the new deep. That's pretty sad. But it's really fun.
