To all the answers you thought you had earlier in your life
And as you got older, you looked around and they were gone...

I’ve always wanted to scream at the powers that be to show themselves...

And was not amazed
When nobody came forward...

And by the way, who are these powers that be?
Are they actual powers?
I mean do they really have power?
Or is it just an illusion?

What powers do they really hold?
Their own or the one’s we have given them?

And if we gave it to them,
Will they give it back if we ask pretty please?

But take a step back,
Who really has power?
Or what actually constitutes power?

Power in my mind is...
Watching the Niagara drag down millions of gallons of water every minute..

Of seeing our nation’s leaders taking us down a road
That leads to nowhere.

Of seeing a once proud people
Now gather around like a bunch of sheep…

But, what is power to you?
What imagines do you conjure up?

Power.... Is it more than what we think it is?
Can it make us believe more than what we should?

Does it have a magical image that connects us with what we believe we could or should be?
Only you know...

Tell me, what does it mean to you?
Chances are power is not something that we would have it to be...

It's not something that any one person or group has a handle on...
It's not something that can be felt or heard...

But it is something that we all face at the end of our days...

Then we face power.

About the author: Richard Anthony is a screenplay writer and has eight screenplays to his credit. He started writing in 1990, after the birth of his first son. Prior to beginning his writing career, he spent twelve years working at two different radio stations in Sacramento, California. He was an on- air personality for the morning show program at both stations. At his final place of employment, Mr. Anthony worked as an Assistant Operations Manager and Sport Director. After radio, he formed Pyramid Productions. A film/video company dealing with video and audio commercial production.

In 1998 and 1999 Mr. Anthony’s poem “What is Winning All About?” was selected by the International Library of Poetry to be placed in their anthology book of American poets for 1998. They contacted him again the following year to seek his permission for “Winning” to be included in their Millennium anthology collection. He, of course, gladly gave it.
