George W. Bush Is Why Countries Hate America

By John Kuehl

Recently, a friend of mine returned from a tour of duty in Iraq; and I was later informed that he had made 16 registered kills. A 20 year-old man with 16 Registered kills? From my friend? The very same person that I got into a fight with after baseball practice in eight grade? Am I supposed to be happy about that? Should I go and pat him on the back and congratulate him for what he has done? In all reality I will tell him that I am proud of him and support him, but I should not have to say those things at all, because invading Iraq was wrong and completely unjustifiable. Sure, Saddam Hussein was a terrible dictator, and he needed to be removed from power, but that was not up to America to independently decide that was for the people of Iraq. A force of 140,000 was not needed and a country did not need to be bombed as flat as a parking lot. What did Iraq ever do to the United States? Were they ever a threat? With no missiles that could reach our soil, and no real naval vessel with the ability to challenge our technology did they threaten us? Or was their threat that they could not produce oil fast enough to fuel our massive SUV’s and other decadent forms of transportation? Or were they just a scapegoat, the easy way for a president to push a war agenda that our country will be scarred for. This was is a mistake that will haunt this country for decades to come. With the mistake we made, we have once again ushered a new generation into war, which before a few years ago the era was really only reserved for our grandparents, and the History Channel. Not many people are willing to see the repercussions of our actions, and continue to be blind to them. And there is one person to blame for this, George W. Bush. Bush has sent a country into war that had not seen a real war in 60 years, and was completely unprepared for what would happen. Not only that, but he did so on the coattails of a great tragedy that allowed him to not only bring the country to war, but allowed him to control this country by fear with The Patriot Act. With this law, writing an email to a loved one can get someone an FBI file. This is not America this is a dictatorship. While some may believe that George W. Bush has made us safer, and that the troops want to be in Iraq to support the United States, I beg to differ. How many people do supporters of George W. Bush know that are in Iraq or could go? And how many troops would rather be standing out in the desert hold an M16 than at home with their family and friends? What is next? Are we going to change someone else’s government? You bet we are! Next on the block for “liberation” is Iran, which has a much larger army, and would have more resistance than say 1,000 Iraqi soldiers with old Soviet rifles. Which means more casualties. And there is only one way we could solve that problem, a draft. What right do we have as a country to decide who can rule and who cannot? What right does the president possess to send human beings to fight a war that is not justified? We are like the school bully pulling the smallest boy and digging in his pockets for lunch money. There is a reason that countries hate America.
