The "Angry" President George W. Bush

By David Allen Jared
Oct. 15, 2004

First, let me make a correction to an earlier article. I referred to a "retired Secret Service officer" who'd written a book called "Unlimited Access." He was, in fact, a retired FBI agent assigned to the White House...NOT a Secret Service officer. My apologies to the Secret Service and to the FBI for that mistake, which was brought to my attention within hours of that post being put up here.

In today's local paper, there was an entire page of letters to the editor relating to the Presidential campaign. Several of these writers lamented the fact that President George W. Bush APPEARED angry during the last debate with John Kerry and opined that getting angry was "UNpresidential." That's, of course, patently nonsense. President Bush has endured nearly two years of unending sniping, second-guessing, lies, misrepresentations and accusations without merit. I'd be very disappointed if, at some point, he had NOT become angry. After all, enough is enough! It's especially galling, I'm sure, to endure such hate-filled rhetoric coming from lightweights and empty suits like John F. Kerry, John Edwards and Howard Dean, who haven't the least CLUE about being a war-time leader, despite all the crowing to the contrary by Kerry and his crowd.

Other writers on that same page criticized the President for not "admitting he'd made mistakes." One sometimes wonders what it's like to wake up in a brand-new world every morning without the slightest hint of political reality staring one in the face. If President Bush had answered that woman's question by listing three "mistakes" he'd made as President, the Kerry campaign would have IMMEDIATELY used those sound bites to "prove" that George W. Bush is "incompetent." In my opinion, President Bush was absolutely right not to answer that loaded question.

I WANT a President who gets angry. I WANT a President to respond angrily to idiots who have no concept of honor, loyalty and duty and then snipe at a decent honorable man who possesses all of those attributes. I WANT a President who reacts with anger when 3,000 Americans are slaughtered by religious fanatic thugs, whose leaders then run and hide in holes in the ground to escape our righteous wrath. I WANT a President who'll seek these people out and kill or capture as many of them as possible instead of sitting behind his desk getting "serviced" by an intern while he talks on the phone planning a "suitable reaction" based on political polling results. Also, I WANT a President who gets angry when political opponents falsely accuse him of starting a war for political purposes, or for oil, or for revenge.

Finally, I WANT a President whose driving principles include the awareness of his responsibility to do whatever's necessary to protect the United States and its interests instead of thinking in terms of "nuance" and "global tests," meaning, of course, that we should rely in the UN to determine how best to defend our nation.
