Oct. 13, 2004 So let me see. George W. Bush is bringing freedom to Islamic fundamentalists. Okay, but aren’t you disturbed that it has a religious overtone? It bothers me. Religion is important and wonderful. However, where is the diversity that this country needs to be strong? Every time that a nation gets hung up on religion when it’s doing its business, some group or some group of people get mistreated. Those people are ignored or worse yet, not heard in the voice of the common good. It gives rise to “selection” of some and not of others who might be different. Then we ARE NOT represented. Does anyone remember John Ashcroft and the Blind Justice statue issue? Didn’t we think he was a bit silly making such a deal out of it? He raised such a fuss that no one has really taken him seriously since. I never noticed the statue before. Or Janet Jackson either. Tom Ridge? Who knew anything about him before became the Boss of Homeland Security? Did we say, “Hey Tom old buddy, what kind of enforcement experience do ya’ll have? Do you think only church-going people are worthwhile?” None of us as I remember asked much about him. We just went along. Bush had just given that great speech to the nation that brought us together in a patriotic way that made us one. That is why we are hearing “You can run but you can’t hide” now which is what he said to OBL and the terrorists THEN. I don’t think he means that Kerry is an evildoer; I just think Bush wants to win really badly. If he doesn’t win, what’s he going to do? For work, I mean? Preach? With Jesse Jackson? Doubt it. In addition, that word, EVILDOER, is a goofy word. Straight out of a past life, huh? Sounds like pulpit talk to me. I guess I want a president who is current in thought and deed. I feel such sorrow about Christopher Reeve. He was so brave, so scared and so real. He really was a super hero. Didn’t you want him to walk again? Me, too. I keep thinking what if it happened to someone in my family. How would I cope? What if it were me? We don’t talk about things much these days. We’re stroked and pumped by marketing masters. So what do you think the last debate will be like? We get to see the performances, hear the words, and ultimately (if we don’t turn off the television) soak up a bunch of other people’s opinions. Don’t be a sheep. Think for yourself. I don’t think that is much to ask of fellow citizens. We are all different and we’re here in this place together trying to make it better. If you aren’t a sheep, you can be a dog or a cat. Take my cat. Please. No, just kidding. He just ate the last of the evening meal that was not good. Sheppard’s Pie. Recipe link below.
