Oct. 13, 2004 Where do I start? In these last weeks before the presidential election, the John Kerry campaign has become so unbalanced and made so many kooky claims and Orwellian-type statements, it’s difficult to choose which ones to use. But, I’ll give it a shot. The death of courageous Christopher Reeve was the catalyst for the ever-nutty trial lawyer John Edwards to spout new and ridiculous claims about the magical abilities of his mentor-John Kerry-and to surreptitiously blame President Bush for Mr. Reeve’s condition; if not his death. With the image of Elmer Gantry working the crowds, in our minds, and strong hints of a secular Kerry faith-healer, John Edwards boomed on Monday: "If we do the work that we can do in this country, the work that we will do when John Kerry is president, people like Christopher Reeve are going to get up out of that wheelchair and walk again!" Even Christopher Reeve knew that the stem cell research, to which Edwards alluded, wouldn’t help spinal cord injuries. Of course, this goes beyond shame and beyond offering deliberately false hope to those wheelchair-bound individuals who may grasp at any straw; false hope or not. This and subsequent similar statements, from the Kerry campaign, are unconscionable. As an aside, President Bush is the only president who has provided funding for stem cell research. That’s something we didn’t hear from Mr. Edwards. The indication voiced by Edwards is that John Kerry will ‘heal the sick and injured’ and President Bush will not. However, shameless tactics have been used by John Kerry and his minions, throughout his campaign, and have become the foundation of the Kerry message. Another Kerry spokesman, David Wade, chimed in to say: "That's what the scientists tell us — that we're not that far away from breakthroughs." At best, this is a disingenuous statement. It gives the impression that he is agreeing with Edwards. Again, ‘scientists’ do NOT agree that stem-cell research will be the instrument used to ‘cure’ spinal cord injuries. I’d like to know the names of these ‘scientists’. Wouldn’t you? Moving on the continuing Orwellian nature of the Kerry campaign, Kerry campaign official Chad Clanton made an interesting statement aimed at Sinclair Broadcasting. The Sinclair Broadcasting Group made the decision to run a documentary film, “Stolen Honor: Wounds That Never Heal”. The film is funded by a group of Pennsylvania veterans and due to run on the privately held Sinclair Broadcasting Group’s television stations. As the documentary is not favorable to Mr. Kerry, Joe Sadler (DNC attorney) has filed an FEC complaint to suppress it from being aired. Shades of Sadler’s and the DNC’s prior attempts to stop the release of “Unfit For Command”? Absolutely! In response to Sinclair Broadcasting’s endeavor to run the film, on Tuesday’s Brit Hume FNC program Chad Clanton (in an obvious and chilling threat directed to Sinclair) said: “I think they're going to regret doing this and they better hope we don’t win.” Clanton’s threat was not veiled and not a shot fired ‘over the bow’. It was direct and it aimed for the heart. It was, also, a strong statement from John Kerry and the Democrat Party that Stalinistic tactics WILL be used, should Kerry grab the presidency. If there are any residual questions that a Kerry presidency will not only consist of “lie after lie after lie” and that Stalin’s version of the Communist Manifesto will be Kerry’s Bible, this statement from a high-ranking Kerry campaign figure should answer them. Under a Kerry rule, Free Speech will be gone and lies will continue to replace the truth. ------------ About the author: About the author: Sher Zieve is a Conservative political commentator.
