I mean, think about it....
If we are "The Captain's of our own Souls",
why do I get the feeling that somebody else is at the rudder?

It makes no difference how many people we look to for guidance...
It makes no difference how many sources we seek as a "lighthouse"...
It makes no difference how many foundations we try to build under us...
It makes no difference how many circumstances we might be thrown into...

CHOICES COME UP....

It's what we do with the choices we have that make up who we are...

So what are we?
Random pieces of things that float around colliding with each other
passionately trying to cling to another piece that comes into our orbit?

Is that what will make us happy?
Is that what will make us feel like we exist?
Do others have to give us our sense of existence?

Do we not have our own orbit?
Where others are caught up in our gravity?
Where we are the center and without us other's spin off into oblivion?

I want to know....

I want to know why the choices that I make always come back to haunt me...
I want to know why I wake up at night in a cold sweat knowing shadows are behind me...
I want to know why lives are changed, inexorably by forces that live on another plane...
I want to know why we really don't have any choices?

DON'T YOU?????

Freedom is an illusion...
Made into a nemesis by forces
Who cling to the darkness
And will never reveal themselves...

So, I guess the ultimate question is...

WHAT ARE THEIR CHOICES?

About the author: Richard Anthony is a screenplay writer and has eight screenplays to his credit. He started writing in 1990, after the birth of his first son. Prior to beginning his writing career, he spent twelve years working at two different radio stations in Sacramento, California. He was an on- air personality for the morning show program at both stations. At his final place of employment, Mr. Anthony worked as an Assistant Operations Manager and Sport Director. After radio, he formed Pyramid Productions. A film/video company dealing with video and audio commercial production.

In 1998 and 1999 Mr. Anthony’s poem “What is Winning All About?” was selected by the International Library of Poetry to be placed in their anthology book of American poets for 1998. They contacted him again the following year to seek his permission for “Winning” to be included in their Millennium anthology collection. He, of course, gladly gave it.
