Nov. 5, 2004 It seems things work out. I have to look at things that way. I know John Edwards was looking foreward to being the second banana to John Kerry, but maybe it's better he isn't in that position now. I'd like to address Mr. Edwards now. My prayers are with you. I realize I have made a lot of fun of you and your wannabe boss, but the election is over. Mr. Edwards, I've been there. My wife, too, went through breast cancer ten years ago. Hopefully treatments will be much improved now. She went through the whole shebang in 1994. Starting with a partial mastectomy. Mr. Edwards, believe me, this is going to be a time you will not want to be tied up with political transition. Your wife, Elizabeth Edwards, will need you and if you love your wife you will want to be there all the way for her. I hope they caught the cancer in time. I hope for the best for you and your family. She is going to go through a lot and she will need every ounce of strength you can give her. My wife lost a breast, lymph nodes, her immune system, her hair, her self esteem, and was terribly depressed. Hang in there. God Bless you and your family. We don't share political points of view, but I can relate to this. Furthermore, even after my wife was thought to be cured she went through a lot of follow up. We thought she was out of the woods. The cancer came back two years later as bone cancer. She died of that. Charish every moment you have with her like it was your last. It could be. My children grew up without a mother for seven years. Life without my wife is very lonely and I haven't been able to find anyone like her. I'm not trying to be a wet blanket. I'm just trying to tell you what I went through. There's also a lot of support. The American Cancer Society is a good source of help. God is also a big help too. Keep the faith. If all else fails I'm a good listener. I wish you all the best. ------------ About the author: Lee Zelhart is a proud graduate of McKendree College in Lebanon, Illinois and the father of two teens (one of which will be getting married in the next couple of years, maybe sometime in 2006) and the author of The Ghost of the Cavalier due out in 2005.
