Nov. 1, 2004 On this 'All Saints Day' as it is known where I am from, is a day we pay tribute to our deceased loved ones. From earlier high school and prior recollections, I recall making the trip to the local cemetery where my ancestors and other loved ones were placed upon their departure, where I and other relatives would converge to tidy up the grave sites. After this operation was completed, candles would be lit after which a word of prayer would also be said. Although it was an emotional time, I regret not saying to these departed loved ones how much I cared and loved them when they were alive. So, I take this time to say to my grandparents, aunts, uncles, cousins and others how much I did cherish their presence, and even though I did not demonstrate how I felt about them when I had the chance, I am saying so now. For in order to move into the future, first one has to be aware of what occurred in the past and I must say, that I have learned that very well. I thank all of you for that, for if I had not known you when you were 'with us' I would probably not be the person I am today, for each family has its own history. It is this history that keeps the bond between us and even after they, our older loved ones have gone from this world, I would like to think that someone, somewhere is taking some time out of his/her busy day to pay their respects to these precious ones who have been there for us when we were growing up. And do not forget to say how you feel about a certain loved one before they pass on, for it is while they are still among the living, these things need to be said. ------------ About the author Judy Ramsook: My first book titled: "Karen's Adventure" which is about two young girls who go in search of their missing parents, is now available.
