Women's Tongues-The Energizer Bunny?

By Holly Scarborough
May 29, 2004

Women are estimated at speaking 25,000 words a day, while men speak a mere 12,500. It is a known fact that women speak more than men. An anonymous quote states, "God made man before he made woman because he wanted to have a little talk with him without interruption."

Women are more vocal than men, however, in the beginning of time, God knew women would be the ones home with the kids and dealing with the repair men who come during the day.

Women are the ones answering the questions from kids and nieghbor kids about ," Why did you wear those shoes?" and, "Why can't I have a piece of cake?" immediately after they have had a popsicle.

Women play referee between siblings and settle arguments between their kids and the neighbor's kids, and explain why their child's friend at school is nice to them one day and will never be their friend again the next.

In no way am I saying that women are better or that men are inferior. When my husband comes home and an argument breaks out between the kids, I am more than happy to let him take care of it with a short, to the point sentence because I am too tired to give them what I would have given them, which would have had many more words.

Older women are who I go to for advice. They have a compassionate way about them that comes across in their words. Somehow, much emotion can be felt when they offer their words of wisdom. Even when they just say hello, I can feel their peace with life and their warm feelings, in which they can pass on in that one word.

In times of grief or trouble, women have come to my side with hugs and cards or flowers. Their words of comfort have always been important to me, and I strive to become more like them as I grow older.

Yes, women do speak more than men, but used in a good way, they can teach younger women many things.
