May 27, 2004 The Young man was in need of a new car, but because of life's circumstances and poor health, his inability to buy a new car was affected by his very poor credit rating. So, he struggled through one second hand car after another. Then one day, he decided to look at the new chevrolets. Oh, how he wanted one. After all, it couldn't hurt to look. Or could it? Out comes the salesman, wearing a smile, hoping to make that sale and that commission. That's the America way, Right? Oh, don't worry, grinned the salesman, I can get you a new car, and indeed he did. The young man drove away with the shiny new car that day, never suspecting what lay ahead for him. A few days later, he gets a call to come in, that they needed to show more income for the car to be approved. Approved? The young man had already signed the contract and couldn't understand this new development. He was told to put down his wife's income, to sign her name and initial it. The only trouble was-she was his ex- wife. Oh, that's okay the saleman said, we just need to show more income to appease the bank. So, beguiled by the saleman and the new car, the young man commits an unethical act as his trembling hand puts forth the signature. Thirty days later, no tag, no papers from any bank about where to make payment, so he goes to the dealer and they take his $545.00. A few days later, he gets a call to come in and sign a new contract. What was wrong with the original contract thinks they young man and he decides to forgoe signing anything else. A few days later, he carries his handicapped brother to the doctor and the brother leaves his prescription glasses and boots in the car, never realizing that he would see them no more. While our poor beguiled car owner was inside with his family, his car was taken. They still wanted a new contract and now $2000.00 before he could get the car back. After all he was already paying 17% interest on the car, guess that was not enough. They never returned the things in the car to the rightful owner even though they have been asked and they young man has even gone down to the dealership on three different occasions. So, beware of a deal to good to be true. If it's too sweet, there is more than like to be a sour ball somewhere and it bounces in unethical behavior and dishonesty to the poor working people of this country. ------------ About the author Kathy Bunn Schultz: I will have a book coming out in the next few months, my first one, called "The Convent and the Rose".
