May 27, 2004 Artists are temperamental people they say. Perhaps temperament springs from seeing the world more vibrantly. An artist doesn't see just an object or a person; he/she is consumed by the tiny nuances that compose the perception of what they are viewing. For instance, someone from the artistic arena can look at a sunset, an engineer can look at the same sunset and they will see very separate things. The brushstrokes that compose the clouds can be as soft of watercolors or harsh as thick oil paints--the harmony of deep passionate colors are realized as most difficult to duplicate except by some higher power who was the original composer or the work. At the same time, the engineer might be thinking about what weather and temperature conditions caused the phenomena. He might consider about how much moisture it took and the timing of the collection of the elements to sum up themselves into this attractive lighting. The engineer will move on wondering if the clouds mean it will rain tomorrow and upset his schedule. While, the artist may stand there and softly sigh or cry, being overwhelmed by what he/she has perceived as one of the many miracles he/she has paused to gaze upon everyday. A true artist has seen things that are so beautiful that they have physically caused them to hurt, knowing that the beauty if so fleeting. One of my many wishes for the world has been that just for one day, everyone could see life and all its elements and people through the eyes and hearts of artists. There would be no wars, killing, hatred in that day. The emotions and new view of reality would wipe all that away. As human beings, many would see finally understand that all their brothers and sisters are truly beautiful. This could achieve a newborn respect for every living thing, including mother earth, and how it all works together and for good. Moreover, all would know joy, peace and celebration. Praise let this day come soon.
