"Lite Food for Thought"

By Fred Gene Gerson
June 21, 2004

So what happened to heavy all ready? What about It? I am getting so sick and tired of lite this and low fat that and ultra lite whatever that I could eat a whole box of Twinkees and that's a trip because sponge cake is... well "lite".

O.K. so I am one of the lucky ones that can eat anything without gaining weight but still it's not fair. I want to gain a few pounds! So, why not "heavy" cupcakes or "heavy" waffles, or... but, you get the picture.

Us skinny folks have to pay the penalties for everyone else. It's not that I am not happy with what I've got, it's just that the whole world is designed to fit medium, and yes, big and tall and obese people. Just go to a shopping mall and look at the stores. For the men "Big and Tall Shop (s) or departments. For the gals, plus sizes and so on. For the gals', shops specialize in petite and Jr. sizes abound, but any one out there ever see a shop or department for "small" men? Just recently I went to one of the locally famous "Outlet Centers" in the area and went to four major outlet stores before I could find one lonely sport shirt in a man’s small. When I asked why, I was told that the computer showed no sales of smalls and that they did not order any. These dunderheads and the computer have evidently not figured out that if their are no size small items in the store that even the smartest computer can not count any sales of this size.

Folks, I mean we even got lite salt and low cholesterol eggs out there, even lite chewing tobacco.

I like dark beer and ale. So far Madison Ave. hasn't figured a catchy slogan or way to call the stuff by a name the average bumblehead can identify with, or, we would have "Light Dark Beer".

The British People, founders of the idea of freedom and fairness, still have some reason. They have beer and ale called "Stout" and English Muffins are actually intended and are designed to hold more butter.

The Jewish people understand what I am talking about; ever here a Jewish Mother say, "Don't eat so much!"?

In all fairness, I think that "Heavy Chocolate Cake Mixes" should be introduced. Likewise what's wrong with "heavy sugar". Most people would probably put less in their coffee anyway. Think about it... using less heavy sugar would be good for the ecology. We would use less paper bags for the sugar. We would save trees. With all of the scientific research going on why hasn't anyone developed heavy lettuce. A salad would then be more attractive to us skinny folks.

Problem is "lite" is "in" now and we just gotta let it run its' course. Just as all good things must pass, so shall all bad things and "lite" things. Eventually, "Lite" will die of its own weight. Hmmmm.
