Media Myth-Makers
June 21, 2004

Well, the collective media is at it again. The latest example of the unabated assault against the U.S. president is the overblown reporting of one line of the "9/11 Commission" report stating there is no connection between Iraq and the events of September 11, 2001. The nature of the reporting of this is, of course, such that President Bush lied, he is incompetent, the Iraq war was fraudulent, etc.

What is missing in most of the reporting is that the "9/11 Commission" did not state there is no linkage of Iraq to terrorism in general, only that only to the best of the currently available resources, there is no direct link to the 9/11 attacks.

Any reasonably intelligent person who has followed current events over the last several years knows that the Bush administration never stated there was a direct link of 9/11 to Iraq. In fact, President Bush himself, just a few months ago, stated there was no direct link as have others in the Administration. Bush and his team have quite clearly stated all along that there was a linkage of Saddam Hussein's Iraq to terrorism in general and, together with Hussien's penchant for dipping in the weapons of mass destruction well, was enough to warrant a pre- emptive invasion of Iraq.

In effect, the 9/11 Commission's latest findings are in line with what the Bush administration has said all along. Leave it to the partisan media to spin this as a blow to the Administration's credibility and integrity. Those who still feel there is no left-wing media bias need to check back in to reality. This story is just the latest example of mainstream media operating more out of a preconceived agenda than with objective analysis. Consider the overblown and tilted reporting of the Iraq prisoner abuse case while murders and mutilations of Americans and others at the hands of middle-eastern cowardly thugs is virtually ignored. When video evidence of some of the horrors undertaken by Saddam Hussein was released last week, it too was overlooked by the collective world media.

The bias in the media, fueled by election-year partisan politics, has created a situation whereby President Bush and his staff are expected to operate in a flawless manner while battling an unpredictable enemy in hostile and ever-changing environments. This ridiculous expectation becomes particularly dangerous as the terrorist enemies themselves have learned to manipulate our media in an effort to ultimately win this battle against us. And, in their rush to crucify our president, members of the media cannot see how they are being played by organized murderers. Is this what our founders had in mind when they granted freedom of the press?
