June 4, 2004 Everyone knows about Mount Rushmore, but there is another sculpture, right next door, that is larger, and much grander in scope. More importantly, while Mount Rushmore was conceived as a tourist attraction, This project will be a beacon for an entire people. The Crazy Horse memorial is a sculpture that is already larger than Mount Rushmore, and will, when complete, be larger than the Gaza pyramids. But, the mountain carving is only the beginning of the complex. It already holds an extensive Indian museum, bronze work by the sculptor commissioned for the mountain, and provides scholarships to deserving native college students. Eventually the complex will house a college and medical center to enrich native life. It costs a bit more than Mount Rushmore to get in (Rushmore is $8 for a car, Crazy horse is $20) but the money go to a good cause.
