July 31, 2004 Once in a while I get a response that’s worthy of reply. Most of the time they’re a lot of poorly written dirty words. A lady responded to some of my comments regarding John Kerry. She made an attempt to relate the lack of accomplishments of President George W. Bush to the accomplishment of John F. Kerry. Not necessarily in the order she made her points, I would like to respond to her. She claims her three year old is more articulate than the President. There are times when using linguistic skills beyond the understanding of the general public is a detriment. Not all Americans are graduates of Harvard or Yale. So far the President hasn’t seen the need to send spinners out to explain, “What you heard me say wasn’t what I said”. When the President speaks there’s never a need for an explanation to follow up. Straight talk doesn’t need elaborate articulation to be understood. She claims the President has taken the low road of negativity. Isn’t it John Kerry and the Democrats who claim the country has been on the wrong road for the past four years? It’s the Kerry crowd who makes the allegations of despair and gloom? The President uses terms of cooperation. With a promise he will go to Congress to work out details of his plans for the future. It’s the Democrats who use terms like; I’ll fight for this or that. If they stop fighting and get down to cooperating and negotiating we’ll all benefit. This President has cooperated with Congress more than any I have seen in my three quarters of a century. Certainly more than his predecessor. I wonder if the lady is teaching her three year old the meaning of words and phrases like “is, is”, “ inadvertently”, “ the dog ate the billing records”, “ I never had sex with that women”, “I voted for it before I voted against it”. Everyday normal Liberal Democratic conversation. She questioned my saying President Bush had surrounded himself with thinkers rather than those who make their living by make-believe. Does this really need an explanation? Michael Moore, Whoopi Goldberg, Ed Asner, Mike Farrell. etc. etc. I doubt there’s more than one eighth grade diploma among the bunch of them. This doesn’t even need further discussion. Her assessment of President Bush was less than glowing to say the least. Now it’s my turn let’s talk about the record of John Kerry and John Edwards. John Edwards made his millions suing business; increasing the cost of nearly everything he touched. But he’s a man of the people. Enough said about Little Johnny. John Kerry has served in the Congress of the United States for nearly twenty years. It is the responsibility of Congress to oversee the workings of government, to make the laws that are enacted to protect us. The hijackers of 9/11 were all here on expired visas. Those visas had expired prior to George Bush taking office. Where was the oversight Senator Kerry and Senator Edwards? To assume all the details for the 9/11 attack could have been worked out in a few months isn’t feasible. Where was the oversight Senators? In his acceptance speech Senator Kerry suggested the President had used the National Guard in an inappropriate way. Wasn’t it the lack of funding for the Army that drew its numbers down to a level they couldn’t operate? They couldn’t replace those leaving? Didn’t Senator Kerry vote against any new appropriations for the services? Clinton used The National Guard as well, under your oversight Senator Kerry. This one is beyond belief. John Kerry jumps in a river to save his daughters hamster. John Kerry gives the hamster artificial respiration to save its life. John Kerry jumps in a river to say a shipmate. John Kerry gives the shipmate artificial respiration to save his life. What are the chances of history repeating? I’m sorry I don’t buy John Kerry’s heroics. John Kerry received three Purple Hearts with no hospital confinement. If its John Kerry who sets the president for medals. Should a man who lost a leg receive six Purple Hearts, one for each toe and one for the leg? Perhaps the Navy Cross should go with the leg. Since when does a Navy Lieutenant carry a movie camera with him to document any heroic deeds he may accomplish while on duty? The only heroic thing was to put him in harms way to gather future photos for use in any future political campaigns he may enter. John F. Kerry is an opportunist who lacks caricature, integrity and honesty. All one need do is review the taps of his anti-war involvement. Now he’s using a war he strongly opposed to gain the Presidency. All the News media in the world can’t rewrite the John Kerry history of flip-flops. In closing I must say the lady who wrote me wasn’t the least bit insulting. Her response was well written. I’m sure she was sincere even if her facts were less than accurate. ------------ About the Author: Ken Hughes is a retired businessman.
