John Kerry's Key Theme: Making Our Alliances Stronger
July 30, 2004

That seems to be a key theme to the Kerry campaign. Of course like so much else in our modern election system it is little more than code. An 8 year old who bothers to read between the lines can see that he really means "I plan to grovel before the almighty French". Of course that same 8 year old could tell the good senator that no matter how much french he knows he isn't going to make the frogs like us all of the sudden.

But this begs a different question: what is so great about an alliance in the first place? Are alliances meant to be permanent? Think about it. Alliances are deals between governments, not between people. This means that we are allies with countries that are rabidly anti american. You know, the french, the germans, the greeks, the egyptians, the saudis. If anyone of these nations were attacked we would be obliged to help them. Why should we? Maybe it is time to end our traditional alliances. Should we be ready to fight for the french, the egyptians, the saudis? Our allies are either weaklings, as in the case of the saudis, or the are ingrates as in the case of the french.

We wouldn't suggest that a women stay in an abusive marriage why should we keep going back to Europe and asking for their approval? John Kerry wants to strenthen our alliances. Fortunately I don't think he will get the chance to do this. I don't think that he will win in November. But if we truly wanted better alliances then it would be time to look in other parts of the globes. I shouldn't have to state the painfully obvious, but alliances are about geopolitics, and strengthening your nations defense. Europe is old. It is obsolete. Europe in another 50 years will not be Europe anymore, it will simply be anextension or Arabia. The Future doesn't lie their anymore. Will Spain rise again to be a great military power? Will Italy go and recreate the roman empire? Now these questions are rhetorical and ridiculous.

If we want an alliance lets find a strong nation in a part of the world that matters. India comes to mind. But it is high time to weaken our alliances and move end them if necessary.
