July 30, 2004 Watching the Democrat's National Convention is like, well....deja vu all over again, to coin a phrase. The Democrats have fielded what is arguably the most liberal ticket in anyone's memory, but to hear most of the speeches, they are pretending to all be Reagan Democrats. There's been much talk about how strong on defense they'll be with a "Vietnam War Hero" as their standard-bearer--even though MOST of those at the conventions including Bill and Hillary Clinton, loathe the military." Ann Coulter said in a recent column that basically, delegates are the same people who used to spit at returning soldiers from Vietnam and scream invective at them, who called the police "facist pigs," and who, in the case again of Bill and Hillary, taught their children to, whenever possible, rip the medals and ribbons off of nearby military people in uniform. Besides, Kerry's military service was rendered VERY suspect when over 122 of his fellow swift-boat crewmen and commanders disputed his accounts of how he got his medals-- especially two of his purple hearts, and stated categorically that he has no business being the military's Commander in Chief. Then there's reason to believe that it wasn't NEARLY as "honorable" as he'd have us believe. But, that aside, my question is basically, "Why do they feel the need to lie." If they are all proud Democrats, why shy away from the other half of that description...LIBERAL Democrats. It's what they ARE, after all. Zell Miller, arguably the last, prominent conservative Democrat is treated like a pariah at his own party's convention. Joe Lieberman, a "moderate" Democrat is treated like a Benedict Arnold for daring to challenge the supremacy of their liberal icons--John Kerry and Howard Dean--a few months ago. SURELY there are a few Democrats somewhere who oppose abortion on demand. Why has no one ever heard of (or from) them this week? The Democrats have toned down the "hate Bush" rhetoric that's been ongoing for a year now on a daily basis. Could the reason be that they KNOW that such silly childishness just doesn't sell well in middle America and they want to hide who they are and what they really believe? Apparently. Wanna take any bets that it won't resume in full fury and force by this time next Monday? I sure wouldn't take that bet and you can pick your own odds. The Democrats have demonstrated quite adequately that they are the party of high taxes, redistribution of the nation's wealth, moral relativism where there's no "real" right or wrong--only bad upbringing--and Michael Moore. They believe that no parent should even BE INFORMED if the school counselor takes their daughter to an abortionist, but the school must get parental permission before giving the same girl an aspirin. In short, sheer insanity. They believe that sacrificing two generations of poor ghetto kids to a failing public school system is OK so long as their "friends" in the major teacher unions are protected and given tenure. They are, in fact, the REAL party of special interests. They are ruled utterly by the radical environmentalists, the unions (including teacher unions and public employee unions), the trial lawyers and the cabal of the NAACP, NOW and Planned Parenthood--all of whom have ANYTHING but their putative constituents' best interests at heart. Why lie about any of this? If you're actually PROUD of who you are and who you really represent, why go to such great lengths to hide it? The answer, of course, is that most people don't REALLY want high taxes, moral relativism, anti-Christianity, anti-religion, anti-military folks running things. If the Democrats told America who they REALLY are, they couldn't get elected dogcatcher. So, they MUST lie. But do we really want the country run by people who lie so frequently and convincingly merely to get themselves installed in positions of political power? Frankly, I don't think so. Nor do I think that they want to be governed by such liars who are so adept at transferrance they lying about their opponents lying instead of just telling us what THEY believe. I honestly resent the fact that these people apparently believe that America is populated by a bunch of immoral idiots who don't know the difference between a liberal and someone who's desparately pretending NOT to be a liberal. ------------ About the author: David A.
