July 26, 2004 You’ll never guess in a million years who built the wall separating Israel and Palestine. You knew it was Yasser Arafat all the time, why didn’t someone tell me? Inigo Gilmore, Palestine posted an article in the Telegraph, England. Describing in detail how the Palestinians contributed to the wall between Israel and Jerusalem. Now the World Court and the UN are demanding Israel dismantle it. It’s un-something. Not so fast this actually makes some sense in the long run. Palestinian companies provided the cement and much of the labor for the wall. Arafat fiddles while the wall goes merrily along. The cement originally came from Egypt intended to rebuild housing for Palestinians whose homes were destroyed by the Israelis in retaliation for suicide bombing by Palestinians. Some Palestinian politicians and businessmen got together and contrived to divert it to the wall. Every one including the UN knew full well what was going on. Here’s where the blame America comes in. There’s always a blame America in the Middle East. [There’s always a blame America everywhere including America]. Yasser Arafat and the Palestinians have been off American television for several months. Media coverage is as important to Arafat’s survival as rodents are to snakes. You’ll notice Fox News was the only Network to give this any mention and it was but a blip on their screen. So here’s where this makes sense. It takes years for anything in the Middle East to come to fruition. Arafat starts his objections now knowing the Israelis will have the wall up and working by the time anything can be resolved in world opinion. Arafat then sends Palestinian labors under the supervision of the UN to tear down the wall, sort of a UN jobs for olive oil thing. They’ll be paid by Israel of course. You see how simple all this is? Arafat profits from the wall going up and Arafat profits when the wall comes down. It’s a win-win for Arafat. If this weren’t one of the most blatant examples of governmental corruption under the noses of the UN it would be funny. America is chastised for not doing more to bring pressure on Israel to resolve the Palestinian issue. How do you resolve an issue when one side is unwilling to negotiate in good faith? The last thing Arafat wants is a recognized country that will be free to vote for their leaders in open elections. Allah forbid Arafat not be the total Dictator forever. Israel has given more land to the Palestinians than any of their Arab Brothers. What is claimed as Palestine the Israelis took from Jordan. The Gaza was traded by Egypt to Israel for the return of the Sinai Desert. Egypt, Jordan, Libya, Saudi Arabia and Lebanon have all expelled the Palestinian Authority from their countries. Only Israel has tolerated their presence. It’s a good thing I’m not a Jew and don’t live in Israel. If it were up to me I would give the Palestinians seventy-two hours to come to the table with the intention of resolving the issue of their statehood. In that time frame I would strongly suggest they find a new home for Arafat a long way from the Middle East. If they didn’t what would I do, don’t ask. I can see many of you will disagree blaming it all on Israel. I ask you how many Palestinians have been killed by Israeli suicide bombers? How many times has Arafat singed peace agreements only to back out at the last minute? If one disregards the media bias and checks the facts they will find Israel has gone far beyond what most nations would tolerate. All Israel has ever asked is to be left in peace. Here’s a bit of trivia for you. There are Palestinians in the Israeli Knesset; there are no Israelis in the Palestinian Authority. ------------ About the Author: Ken Hughes is a retired businessman.
