July 23, 2004 The purveyors of disinformation (AKA the “mainstream liberal press”) war rooms must have been busy yesterday afternoon and into the night, as it loaded its ammo and worked on ways to spin the 9/11 Commission’s report findings. Or, maybe they already had alternate stories, ready to go to press; just in case the commission’s report didn’t blast President Bush thoroughly enough. My guess is the latter explanation. Although the 9/11 Commission said it found no (or couldn’t prove) definitive “operational relationship” between Iraq and al-Quaeda, in respect to the planning and execution of [the] 9/11 attacks, it did acknowledge that there had been meetings between the two. I wonder what the two entities were discussing. The price of oil, perhaps? The 9/11 Commission’s Executive Summary finds that a complete overhaul of the US Intelligence community is required. No surprise here. But, does anyone remember one of the principal reasons this is necessary? Does the name “Jamie Gorelick” ring a bell? Ms. Gorelick (of the Clinton Administration) was responsible (part and parcel) for creating policy which disallowed information sharing between the CIA and FBI. Of course, as she is a Clinton democrat, the “mainstream press” engaged in attempts to diminish this story; via its infamous practice of placing of the story in the back pages. The 9/11 Commission came to the conclusion that the Al-Quaeda terrorism predicament had been in place for over a decade. This was Monday morning quarterbacking, as the commission also found: “Poor congressional oversight. Congress was slow to recognize the growing terror threat; it also gave little guidance to executive branch agencies. It did not perform robust oversight to identify and resolve apparent problems in national security and domestic agencies that were readily apparent after Sept. 11.” There is enough blame to go around. Yet, today’s headlines still work to give the impression that most (if not all) of the 9/11 attacks should be placed at President Bush’s feet. • 'Operational Relationship' With Al Qaeda Discounted’ (Washington Post) • ‘Swift Action on Advice From the 9/11 Commission Is Unlikely’ (NY Times) • ‘Panel Isn’t Going Away-It’s Going On the Offensive’ (LA Times) • ‘????????’ (The San Francisco Chronicle has NO front page story [its internet site] on the 9/11 Commission’s findings) Note: Apparently, as it didn’t bash Bush enough, it wasn't considered important by the Chronicle During an extremely dangerous period in our country’s history, a time in which our country literally hangs in the balance, partisanship (mixed with an almost maniacal desire for one party to return to power) has been placed above its citizens’ safety and the very sovereignty of the United States. Can we and the country afford to continue this idiocy? The answer of any and all coherent people should be “No”. ------------ About the author: Sher Zieve has a degree in Journalism, appeared on the CBS program "Mysteries of the Millenium", has been included in "Who's Who in the West", "Who's Who in the US" and "Who's Who in Entertainment".
