July 22, 2004 I have noted that there are people standing along the Tour de France route who are spitting on Lance Armstrong as he leads the race. Based on my observation and on the recent race results, when the French weasels spit on Lance Armstrong, it just makes him pedal a bit faster. In the vein of us vs them, "foreign" vs the USA, the following seems relevant to our presidental election. First it is Kerry who says he's supported by foreigners, and now Edwards says the same thing. http://www.drudgereport.com/flash.htm It is a mighty good thing that foreigners can't vote in our elections, but does this explain why the wacko left in San Francisco wants illegal immigrants to vote? First you let illegal aliens vote, and then maybe next year let Jacques Chirac pick our president. http://www.mensnewsdaily.com/archive/newswire/news2004/0604/062204-voting.htm The problem Kerry and Edwards have is that they think that Americans are eager to fall at the feet of foreigners just because they themselves are anxious to bow down or bend over. Given the frontier spirit, the independence of the people of the USA as opposed the more group-think nature of Europe (do they really line up all the screw slots in the same direction at Mercedes Benz?), I think this will have the opposite effect on the voters. When foreigners cheer for Kerry and Edwards, I suspect the average citizen will be less likely to vote for them, mavericks that we are, and that George Bush will just pedal faster. This bodes well for GWB. Thank heaven. ------------ About the author: 62-yr-old physician, still practicing, retired from 41 years intermittent military service as of June 1, 2003.
