July 19, 2004 The conservative commentators here at Useless Knowledge might want to sit down for this particular missive from the Left. It concerns California’s governor, Arnold Schwarzanegger, and his recent reference to Democrats in the state legislature as “girlie men” for their inability to break an impasse on the budget. This die-hard liberal, who has seen the remarks several times on that liberal bastion of 24/7 news, CNN, found the governor’s remarks funny, self-effacing, and a good way to diffuse very stressful situation. Anyone who hasn’t been living in a cave the last quarter-century could clearly see that Schwarzanegger wasn’t trying to raise the ire of women or gays with his comments. He’s trying to get the Democrats riled up, and at the same time, he was having fun with the old Hanz and Franz bit from “Saturday Night Live”. The Democrats may not be happy about the governor’s comments, but they have to understand the spirit with which they were intended. Yes, they were meant to stir action, and yes they were meant to challenge. But they weren’t mean- spirited insults to their manhood or to the lifestyles of homosexuals. It was clearly tongue-in-cheek, played for laughs and catcalls. And it had the desired effect. To the liberal media and my Democratic friends out in California, I say have a good laugh about all this, quit taking yourselves so seriously and move on to a real news story. And to the folks at Fox News Channel—including closet liberal Bill O’Reilly—quit harassing the liberal media and my Democratic friends out in California for taking themselves so seriously, laugh with them, and move on to a real news story. ------------ About the author: Arnold Schwarzanegger is one Republican who Claxton Graham would be inclined to vote for, if he lived out in California. Such as it is, he lives three hours ahead of the Golden State and makes his money as a business systems analyst. Email: scifiwriter8502@email.com Tell a friend about this site! ------------ |
