Aug 31, 2004 Today, I was driving my car and I noticed that there are a lot of billboards that portray being fat or plump as taboo or unacceptable. These billboards are especially directed toward women. I for one am so sick and tired of hearing people down women just because they are not thin. Women are the flowers of our society; they look great, they smell great, and if you get one you will be so happy that you will take care of it as long as you live. However, there are some flowers that have thorns on the stems, so watch what woman you get. I remember going to a restaurant and seeing a woman order a glass of water and a salad, and that is all she ordered and that is all she ate. She looked maybe five foot five, and weighed in the double digits. She looked horrible, but it wasn’t her looks that I was concerned with, it was the decision to make herself that way. I have always been concerned with why women have this desire to become thin; don’t they realize that by choosing to be thin it doesn’t make you healthy or good looking? I’m not saying being obese is healthy or for that matter good looking, but being thin isn’t either. I personally like women that are plump and have some meat on their bones; I’m not criticizing all girls that are “skinny”, because there are some women who do eat a lot of food, yet they can’t gain weight. However, girls who choose not to eat or regurgitate after they eat are really not a turn on nor are they as beautiful as they portray. What drives a woman to listen to these billboards and take action to be thin? There are a lot of reasons. Women are insecure by nature, some might deny it, but it’s true. As a man, I don’t have all the answers to a woman, but when a plump woman sees billboards, movies, television shows, models, and even the reaction to the male species that reads, “you’re ugly and fat” then that woman will feel insecure about herself. Some women choose to be skinny because it’s a requirement. Whether it’s being an actress or a model or an athlete. Do you honestly think that Cindy Crawford would make as much money as she was during the 1990's if she weighed two hundred pounds? Of course not, because in Hollywood, there is no room for plump women. Do you think Britney Spears would have sold all those records if she couldn’t fit in a two piece bikini without her belly hanging out? Nope. Because in music, it’s not about the music it’s about the image. Sad, I know. I personally don’t see how some men find Paris Hilton attractive, she looks like a slim jim with blonde hair. You would figure with all the money her daddy makes, she could buy a bucket of chicken down at KFC, but then again it’s probably the drugs that are eating away at her so-called flesh. Give me someone like Beyonce Knowles or Marilyn Monroe; at least when you take them out to dinner they will actually eat something. If I was to give a message to the women of America, it would be this; for god sakes, eat something. Grow fat and be happy, because you look good doing it. Don’t go too far with it; otherwise you’ll risk your wealth, but like Sir Mix a Lot said; “you can do side bends or sit- ups, but please don’t lose that butt” Trust me when I say this, plump is in. ------------ About the author Eric Schomburg: Visit http://www.geocities.com/schomburg2002.
