Aug 30, 2004 President George W. Bush was near my hometown on Sunday. Looks like he had a packed house. This in a town of democrats. I wished I had been there to see him, but I got stuck teaching a sunday school class to a bunch of people who looked like they could have cared less.(well in all fairness that is probably because I am not a very good teacher.) Still I wished I had got to see him. How often does one get to see the president of the United States? Well, I can tell you what I will not be doing for the next few days: I will not be watching the convention. There are a couple of reasons for this. 1) Conventions are pointless in this day and age. Everyone knows who the nominee is long before the convention gets underway. 2) I can't stand our media. I don't mind that they have political opinions. What I mind is that they hide behind objectivity and neutrality. Please. In Boston they were lapdogs, now in NYC they are going to turn into pitbulls. 3) I don't want to hear about how anarchists and communist"anti-war protestors" are just peaceful misunderstood kids. You won't hear the truth. No, you won't hear that these groups are violent anti democratic groups. And lastly: My vote is decided. Has been for years. I didn't watch that insufferable windbag Kerry in Boston. So I figure to be fair I won't watch the GOP either. Now onto something else. Two French jounralists are being held hostage in Iraq. My first impulse is to say "serves 'em right" but I guess I am being unfair. Although if they are anything like a typical run of the mill frenchman. They are rude and violently ant american. Still I hope they are released unharmed. The crazy thing about all of this is what the terrorists are demanding. France doesn't have any troops in Iraq, and helped Hussein to the very end. They want a french law banning head scarves in public schools repealed. Anyone still think Islam is a religion of peace? One last thing. The democrats are always supposed to be the party of diversity and tolerance(well at least in their minds.) But think back to their Boston hatefest. A tradition for political conventions was the Governor of the host states welcomed the delegates. That was it. Now in Massachuttes we have Mitt Romney. Hardly a right wing republican. All he was going to do was say "welcome to Boston" but I guess one republican near democrats is one republican too many. Looking at our convention we see that the liberals have taken over. Koch, Bloomberg, Schwarzenegger, Pataki, about the only conservatives we will be hearing from is Cheney and Zell Miller. And were supposed to be the party of intolerance? ------------ Email Craig Chamberlain: craig_chamberlain@hotmail.com Tell a friend about this site! ------------ |
