Aug 29, 2004 How often do you find people who have really fulfilled their dreams? Well I haven't. Most of my friends, relatives and the people I have come across have all lived and only lived their life and not their dreams. Of the people I have met, I have found women, by and large coming out with the dreams or wishes, which just remain in their memories. In my country, India, women have never been given the privilege of choice that they can and the result: They narrate to their grand children about their "Dreams". After coming across so many women, curious enough, I went to my granny and asked her whether she had some unfulfilled dreams. Not surprisingly though, she did. Her dream was to pursue her studies. But by the time she could realize what was happening around her she was married and she had so many responsibilities at a tender age of 14 that she forgot her wish. Now that I reminded her she could only feel her moist eyes. She is 75 years now. Another woman whom I met had another pathetic story similarly. She wanted to take up some job and work. But her husband and her mother-in-law did not want her to do so. In some cases brothers are given more importance than them. I met women of different age groups, who are made submissive because of their husbands, fathers, brothers, mothers, sisters etc have risen to make their daughters and sons go ahead in their life. They don't want their children to talk to their grandchildren about their failures and disappointments just because somebody stopped them from even attempting to fulfill their wish. At least some portion of this generation is blessed. I am happy that I have the best parents in my life. I have to thank my mother for every inspiration she has injected in me and asked me to grow to great new heights in life. This was a one liner, which I picked from some
magazine "You will win,
but START". I am happy I read it as
it sort of turned my approach
to life and made me try so many things, which
remained in my memory as a wish
till date. I never knew to drive a car or even
a cycle. Secretly I was craving
to but was a bit scared. I started to learn
driving. I have come across women who had unfulfilled dreams but I am sure there are lots of men who have confronted a similar situation. For all those individuals, If you have a genuine dream which will make yourself or your family or even your country proud of you PLEASE TRY TO FULFILL IT. Try and Try again you WILL succeed. But make a start to reach your goal. ------------ About the author: Rama Sethuraman is an aspiring young writer and an young entrepreneur.
