Aug 24, 2004 A voice of opion said my teacher today. I'm an 8th grader at my small school and today was the second day of school. We had an assignment today durring class where he made us think. Well you're probably thinking of course that's what he did that's his job. Well my teacher had us do something diffrent it's the second day of school and he told us to pick one of the four quotes on his wall and write what we think it ment. Now this is the year we get to study this material so we have no idea at all what it ment. When we finished my teacher had a discussion about opinons. My class ranges from 30 to 34 kids in my class and about 99% including myself said that when your a kid your opinion doesn't matter that much. That we are too young to make a desion that will effect the community. My teacher said our opions did matter. Ha yea right! He said that if we had any ideas about our school that he should take it up with our princible or him and he would look into it. Now the kids in my school that I hear good ideas from are the kind of kids that will not go up to an adult and tell them there idea and the ones that do don't have any time at all. The kids should have some oppinion I mean we are the future! I look around and I see kids who can think of something an adult cannot or won't even consider but they can't do anything about it. SO you might want to say that our voice of opinion is hushed on acount of our age. Why can't we get it out. My theory is when you are an adult then it's a democracy but when you are a kid you can forget it till you're 18. All we want is a chance to speack out and not for someone to say that's a dumb idea, treat us like we don't understand anything, treat us like we're 5, we want to be treated like we're important, we want to let our voices be heard. Now any more almost everything is revolved around kids. Many kids act as though they are adults in good and bad ways. We're getting more and more advanced as the days go by. You see things that kids acomplish that adults barely ever do. Now we just want to voice our opinion without being hushed! ------------ About the author Cassandra Cory Minor: I'm a 13 year old 8th grade student in Ohio. I plan to be a writer.
